Budget? And why not a proper 5.1 setup? There's nothing wrong with that. A sound bar will produce decent sound but you'll still need a receiver...

I use my Yamaha YSP-800 in my bedroom set-up and it performs great, not so good in my livingroom though. The unit cost me $350.00 but I don't believe they make the 800 anymore just the 900.

I agree , for just watching regular TV , it's pretty bad, I messed with it for about two weeks , for the wife , I also have been looking at sound bars, but they are quite expenssive as I found out, been thinking on just finding a small 2 channel reciver and a small pair of klipsch speakers, then just put the audio through it in stereo, bypass the tv, its alot cheaper going smaller and even used EQ.. good luck ..

Budget is paramount here if you want to get a good response back. In the mean time, I'll share this soundbar that I found a couple weeks ago.

Yamaha YSP-1100SL Digital Sound Projector
List Price: $1,699.95
Price: $628.36

This may seem like a lot of money, but it doesn't require an A/V receiver - and it's taking a massive discount in pricing (maybe discontinuing the line? ). What size/shape room do you have and what are you looking for in sound (actual surround or just better than the TV speakers)?

Looks like a good one, but if I was going to spend that amount of money I would go with the Marantz one, Heck I found a new Onkyo Reciver at the flea market for $100.00 , heck the guy said he'd throw in the new Sony CD & Cassette deck to, and I can pick up a pair of Klipsch speakers for around $150.. So tops is like $250.00 for the same deal . this is the way I'll go if I decided too...

How about the Sony CT-100 soundbar. I have one and love it. No receiver needed.

You've listened to this model in person before?

Give us your impressions on it...I'm curious at least!

My Mom wont let my Dad put a Home Theater(Even a 3.0 system)in the Living Room for the 51 inch HDTV.So,I have been trying to find a good quality, low price(I know those two phrases dont go together well)Sound Bar with at least 2 HDMI hook-ups and a sub small enough to hide.

The top of the TV is wide enough to handle most Soundbars sitting there with no special mounting equipment. But it cant be too big or too much of an eye sore for my Mom to approve
(And my Dad really wants some better sound for his sports)

I had looked at the Sony but never heard one.
With the controls being in the sub,if I hide the sub behind the entertainment center, will the remote have any problems getting the signal to the sub.
(The entertainment center is solid backed so there isnt an opening like most AV racks you see.)

Honestly, I think the Sony would have worse sound than your Panasonic. I've heard the Sony. You would be much better off with even a decent center channel speaker and cheap receiver.

I have the Yamaha 1100 and I must say it produces great, powerful & incredibly clear sounds. No receiver needed but I did add a matching subwoofer. I have it in a 27' x 15' room with both high ceilings and the seating area against the wall and this thing amazes us. I'm not a pro at this but far from a novice and again I say this thing is all its cranked up to be.
BTW I paid $588.00 from 6th Ave Electronics last month with free shipping.
