Default How many times have you said.....

How many times have you said "I'm done upgrading my HT"...and then find yourself tinkering or looking to upgrade. Reason I ask is because I think I have told myself and my wife at least 20 times from last year to now that I was finished, but I can't stop trying to find ways to improve my setup....it's like crack I tell ya!!!

It has gotten so bad I just ordered a new sub that was piano black to match my Yamaha's since my old sub was wood grain black and only 6 months old I just purchased a SubDude, Speaker Dude (Awesome purchase, worth the cash) and yesterday a PS3 Slim to replace my 80 gig that went into the kids family room. I think I'm done with my HT..........for now

I pretty much bought stuff that I wanted so when I got it all setup I was very happy with it and didn't want to upgrade.

I buy plenty of movies instead.

I would like to to so something with acoustical treatments someday but ... the problem is ... I am happy with everything so that keeps me lazy.

"I'm done upgrading my HT!"................................after I get my new sub today.............and new speakers and amp later this year...................which should be a few months after new furniture is added to the HT, which should be before a month or two before I add a few more LOTR collectibles. Then I feel pretty positive that "I'm done upgrading my HT!"

But to answer the question, I don't know, it is too many times to count...it really is....maybe more than 12 times in the last year, or at least once a month I guess.....

That's why we meet every Tuesday's and Friday evenings to help each other deal with our addiction...

Upgrading doesn't end until:
(1) You are actually satisfied with your components to the extent that spending a great deal more money will not make it appreciably better;
(2) You run out of money
(3) Other matters (e.g. family) take priority

I guess this falls under #2 and #3, but also when your wife divorces you because of your addiction and takes 1/2 your money to where you can't afford any upgrades.

Silver lining to the cloud - I was able to get my first subwoofer at a reasonable price from a guy in that situation!

I stopped saying "I'm done upgrading" because that never worked. Instead I say "I'm done upgrading for now."

Is that called "trickle-down economics" then?

I agree with the silver-lining, when I got divorced, I bought a lot of goodies that she wouldn't let me have before with my money from the sale of the house.

After I got my first BD player, I upgraded my subwoofer and added a subdude.

After the sub, I upgraded my receiver.

After the receiver, I upgraded speakers, including subdudes for the towers and speakerdudes for the center channel.

Now I am saving to upgrade the receiver, which is only 6 months old.

Then I will move on to the two channel bedroom setup, probably the receiver first then add a sub.

It never ends, but I save and use my "allowance", so my wife doesn't give me a hard time - she just rolls her eyes at me.

You can get caught up in "the fever" very easily. After living with cheap components as a teen (I had no choice), I finally was able to buy my first component system, a Penney's MCS (Modular Component System) with a Sanyo cassette deck and Super D (dbx-type) dynamic range expander. When I got married, my first big upgrade step was to replace the deck with a Nakamichi 670 ZX - it cost $1200, and at the time I was making $4.83 an hour (about $10,000 a year) at the time. Stupid? Yes, very! And it just got worse from there, upgrade after upgrade. The amazing thing is that my wife has never complained about it!

My wife keeps asking if I'm done and I keep reassuring her that I am finished and happy with things. Then I come on this forum and that all goes to hell. I blame each and everyone of you
