I own a Loewe digital CRT & DVD player.
I will be forced in the end to replace both: The TV with either a LCD or Plasma. And the DVD player with a HD blu-ray player (this part i don't mind). My delemmer is that i can not find a LCD or Plasma which surpasses the Loewe in 2 areas: The Black on/in Black (i believe this is termed as "Black Crush" with regards to digital); OR the montion/movement... i am told that HD 200Hz has cured this particular problem. Has any one any recommendations or suggestions ? Thanks in advance to any replies. Steve. |

any lcd or plasma that is properly calibrated will cure black crush. now i will tell you plasmas have deeper blacks than lcd although lcd black levels have come a long way over the last year or so. but like i said earlier, a properly calibrated plasma or lcd will eliminate black crush. i can honestly say the level of detail in blacks on my panny plasma is absolutely amazing

For what you are looking for, a good plasma (Kuro or new Pany V10) will come closest to what you are used to. Black (and ANSI contrast) cannot be matched by LCD (though they are getting better, but at the expense of other problems), and plasma also gives you 900-1080 lines of motion resolution without having to resort to gimmicky motion interpolation. No, 240Hz has NOT solved anything in terms of motion problems in LCD. Motion blur is due to the relatively slow response times of LCD technology (not refresh rates). It is not a problem with plasma as we are comparing response times in microseconds (on millionth of a second) vs miliseconds (one thousandth of a second).
