This is just getting crazy, lol! Even though the series has really gone down hill, I say keep them coming.

They're consistantly entertaining. So I say why stop now.
Each movie has been great, and I really like how they build and flow together into this incredibly rich and elaborate tapestry of a storyline. Very few movies, especially horror movies, and boast such a deep storyline. |

i do enjoy them as well. i'll admit that the first two were the best and the later ones have not been on the same level, however i would not object to seeing more. (long as they dont get worse) sawV was decent, i've watched all saw's in theaters and bought them all on blu.

Around the time Saw 4 came out I saw an interview with one of the producers talking about the fact that the entire cost of production, advertising and marketing costs less than 20 mil a film and shooting from day one til it is in the can ready to go is only 3 months and each one makes over 30 mil in theaters alone he stated that they will just keep making them unitl it no longer makes a profit which in my opinion will be Saw XXI or something.

On one hand, sequels are 99% of the time the laziest forms of filmmaking, next to remakes. Usually it's the exact same story with a few new characters, and it ends up being so stale. Mostly horror sequels, it seems.
On the other hand, sometimes sequels offer something extra, and make it worthwhile to produce. I consider The Godfather 2, The Empire Strikes Back, Terminator 2, and even Halloween 2 to be in this category. The Saw series is weird in that it's sequels fall into both categories, to some extent. The first 3 Saw films are excellent. They tell a unique, interesting story that has a definitive beginning, middle, and end. The only problem is there are 2, soon to be 3, more movies *after* the story is pretty much over. You can only do so many flashbacks. If they can actually make the stories worth telling, then I am all for it. I am a horror fan, I actually own 4 our of the 5 on Blu-Ray so far. Odds are at some point I will see all of them. But it comes down to this: if you like them, watch them. Buy them on Blu-Ray. Support the studio. If you don't like them, stay away from them. Don't give the studios your money. It's that simple. |

I like these movies for the most part. 1 and 2 had clever surprise endings. 3 and 4 fit together nicely and told a very unique parallel story that was in its own right one big movie. Part 5 didnt really add anything to the series.
I really liked how after watching 2-4 I couldnt wait to see the next one, like an old movie serial, to see what was gonna happen next, a cliffhanger so to speak. I had heard recently that it was going to be a 6 part series with the final 'reveal' happening and all plot lines fitting together. But, I just didnt see how part 5 progressed towards that. I guess what I was hoping is that all these twists and intermingled story lines led to some greater overall story that you are missing until you get to the end, then you look back and go "oh yeah, I didnt notice that" or "shit, that was clever" and makes you wanna go back and see it again to pick up on what you missed. Maybe even have a "tour through saw" featurette on the BRD that shows you the things revealed in each film and then puts the 'puzzle' together. But, at this point, and with this news, I am starting to lose hope that I will have that kind of experience and will ultimately be disappointed. They are moving towards greed and not entertainment. As long as the dumb masses (myself included) pay enough to be profitable, they will crank them out. |
