I'm sure this has been discussed thoroughly before but I'm looking into importing this from Amazon.de since its region-free and has the bonus features but not sure if this is the best version available. Not sure how the picture quality looks but I'm hoping someone can help me here.

I read that the US one has a more "realistic" colour palette and the Gaumont one has a more colourful blown out look. Thing is, Fifth Element isnt exactly a realistic film is it?!

The Gaumont transfer looks so soft, has overblown contrast and is washed out to death with so much aggressive DNR that it just kills the detail completely. The U.S remaster does have a harsh digital look, but its far stronger then the Gaumont.

I've got an australian release, can anyone tell me which transfer it's based on?
There are these two in Australia: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F...Blu-ray/12653/ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-F...Blu-ray/13585/ Mine is the second one. |
