Default Upconversion via Blu-ray or ????

Currently I use my BDPS350 for my Blu Ray and my DVD upconverting needs, I wanted to get some feedback on whats better for my DVD upconverting, my BDPS350 or a standalone upconvert? What do you all think?

I use a Oppo DV-983H dvd player to watch dvds & a Sony BDP-S350 to watch blu-rays. The BDP-S350 does a good enough job of upscaling dvds. You should be fine letting the BDP-S350 handle both. But if you want better upscaling, grab a Oppo BDP-83 blu-ray player. It's basically a Oppo DV-983H with blu-ray playback added.

It depends on the specs and chipset in the standalone. Most BD players do a good job of upconverting,....... some are better than others,.... mainly due to the chipset/conversion engine used. One of the best combo players I've seen was the Toshiba HD/DVD players. You can still find them on the internet used. I believe Toshiba also makes a standalone model with the same specs. They did an awesome upconversion job on regular DVD's.

Some of the better BD players for upconversion (IMO) are the Oppo,... Samsung 2500+ series,... and the latest Panasonic series.

Oppo also makes a standalone DVD upconversion player that is awesome.

I have a Sony S350 BD player. It does a fair job of up converting to 1080p.

I agree with the other respondents that there are other BD players or even DVD/DVRs that do a better job up upconverting.

I have a Philips DVDR3505/37. It's a DVR and a darn good DVD player too. It only up converts to 1080i via HDMI. However, for whatever reason, the PQ is noticeably better than the S350 up converting to 1080p.

Consequently I only use the Philips whenever I watch a DVD movie.

Most likely, you have a better deinterlacer in your display (in comparison to S350). Set S350 to output interlaced dvd and compare with the DVR.

Could be a sign of memory loss,... brain drain,.... due to staring at the TV for extended periods of time.
