Hey guys . . . quick question. I was watching Stranger Than Fiction (on BD of course) and I finally decided to ask about something I've been wondering about for awhile. in the scene where Dustin Hoffman is wearing a vest with pinstripes that are very close together, whenever he moves his vest seems to have a flash or a shimmer to it . . . I've noticed this in other movies as well. I have a Samsung 1080p set, with the PS3 as my BD player. Any thoughts?

I know what you're talking about. I'm not sure exatly if it's a side effect of film with those patterns or if it's just an optical illusion. But it could be a combination.
I've noticed this in just about everything film and tv. Especially old black & white TV shows, so I don't think it's the TV or PS3. Although I use a PS3 as my BD player too, so that may be it. This isn't a problem for me, but it is kind of interresting. Any one else have any input? |

Yes, it's aliasing, caused by detail beyond the Nyquist frequency. It can be avoided with an anti-alias filter, but then people complain the picture isn't sharp enough.
