Angry curse of 'The' Dark Knight

I just hate it when people add the word "The" infront of movie titles ever since "The Dark Knight" came out. For example people call "Watchmen" "The Watchmen" or "Knowing" "The Knowing". Why do people feel the need to add "The" infront of movie titles ever since "The Dark Knight" came out?

Since when was this a direct effect of The Dark Knight? People have been adding a misplaced 'the' in front of random movie titles for as long as I know.

I think I'm going to have to jump ship on this one and say The Dark Knight had pretty much nothing to do with people throwing the word 'the' around so nonchalantly.

Agree.

The other way too, omitting 'the' from the title.

Doesn't really matter does it?

I like Empire Strikes Back and The Raiders of the Lost Ark.

I often call the empire strikes back, empire stikes back or just empire.

Dark Knight had nothing to do with adding or taking away the 'the'.

"The Ring" wouldn't work as just "Ring". Movie sucked anyways.

Maybe they want to emphasize the title.

Original Japanese movie was [phonetically] "ringu". They don't have articles in Japanese. But for all we know, they could have intended to the title to refer to simple a ring, not a specific, particular one, i.e., the ring.

And if you think adding "the" to titles incorrectly is annoying, you should hear some of the other things people do. Around here, folks add a possessive "s" to everything. Sure, some business places are supposed to be possessive names, like "McDonald's", but other places like "Kmart" are not supposed to be "Kmart's".

The one that really annoys me is when people say, "The 25th Hour." It's just 25th Hour, people. Come on.

It is in no way related to The Dark Knight. It's been happening forever.

I think that people who refer to it as 'The Dark Night' (and I've seen a couple of folks do that) are much more annoying.

I think studios probably have a whole team of marketing researchers that have figured out that the "The" adds more emphasis to the title. It's not just a ring it's 'thee' one and only Ring or 'thee' Watchmen. It's all a bit silly to me.

I don't get super pissed over it, I kinda laugh at it when people mistitle movies. One word like "the" doesn't bother me, but I get a kick out of it when they completely change the name of the movie. lol

I remember standing in line for Hannibal back in the day and the lady behind me was on her cell phone and told the person she was talking to that she was about to see "Hannibal 2" and I felt like turning around and saying "Damn Hannibal 2? Guess Im missed part 1! Better get out of this line!"

I really don't know what to say here. There are other things to be angry about. Also I liked The Ring, better then most horror movies that have come out in awhile during that time.

I first really noticed this when The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time came out. Almost everyone called it "THE Ocarina of Time" which is most deffinatly incorrect. Of course I am still relativly young to the movie world (25yrs).

I personally think it all started with Tom Green and 'The Chad' in Charlie's Angels, not 'The Dark Knight'.

Wow...

If you think this is a result of The Dark Knight you need to snap out of it quickly. And FYI, it isn't The Knowing or The Watchmen, it's just Knowing and Watchmen.

Hasn't the Dark Knight effect worn off on your brain yet? Sure it was a great movie, but how much further down your throat can you stuff this movie?

This is a non-issue for most people, OP I think it's time to go to a toilet grave yard with a 12 gauge and vent your frustrations. It's by far the best ever. Then you won't sweat the small stuff
