Default BDP-S300 Issue

Hi everyone,

I have a had this player since 2007 and have not had problems until this week. The player will play DVD and CD but when any Blu-ray disc is placed in the player it states that it cannot play the disc. Does the BDP-S300 use multiple lasers? I have already updated to v4.90 firmware... Any ideas?

Thanks!

Unhappy

Try some Blu-ray movies that played before, if you still can't get it to play then there is a problem with the Blu-ray. If it just doesn't play the newer BD this is a common problem with all players.

If you can't resolve the problem ...

Try to find a store still has the S300, buy it, the return it ... make copy of the receipt ... send it with your S300 to Sony for repair ...

Default Tried multipe Discs

Thanks for the input. I have tried 5 Blu-ray discs that have worked in the past. The player advises that the disc cannot be played. I can play any DVD and CD.

I checked the version on the Blu-ray player and it says that it is 4.90. Should I try to reinstall?

Did the problem start after the v4.90 install. It doesn't hurt to try and re-install the firmware, but most likely the BD laser is bad and you'll have to send it in for repair.

The best way to do a Firmware update is a direct connection to a Router from the RJ45 Port with Cat5 Ethernet Cable. Then you just download and update.

same thing happened with my s300, at the time though i had just got a new receiver and wanted to take advantage of the lossless audio so i bought a panny bd-30 and used my s-300 solely for dvd playback.
After a while that two went bad and now it won't play blu or dvd.

And yes their are two lasers in all blu-ray players one for blu-rays and a red one for everything else which is why you could lose he ability to read blu's but still play dvd

A few months ago I tossed in Wall-e and it refused to load though I had the firmware I needed to play it. I unplugged the player and pressed the power button to drain the residual electricity. Let it stand a few minutes. Worked fine after that.

I suggest you try that before you try to reburn the firmware. Even if you already got a successful load, it doesn't hurt to reset the machine. Afterall, these are essentially customized computers with mini operating systems.

That doesnt work anymore does it? We used to do stuff like that when I was in college, early 90s. Actually we went one step further, some of us used to buy receivers and go back to the store get another unit of the same model after a year and just change the casings and return the old set with the new casing, all thanks to the 30 day return policy! Bad bad bad boys we were I know!
I thought they would have wised up by now and would match serial numbers etc.

Replace it. It's an older model so time to upgrade anyway. I am hoping my S300 will break soon so I have a good reason to get a new player.

the s300 is a very slow responsive player,

especially after the update, the 1st time, will be snail trail slow.

what i did was, i let it boot for 2 mins, after v4.90 update.

shut it down...microwave my lunch, and start up again...

now it works like a charm, plays anything i want it to play.

so if your discs arent loading, they probably are...they ae just taking a few years to do it...give it as much time as you can, before you lose it.

or just send it for repair..it could very well be the laser.

sony's blu lasers have been known to die over the time...that includes ps3 too.
