Default collection delays.....bad omen??

I just read that the ALIEN set and the INDIE JONES set (and other anticipated titles) have been pushed back until next year. Major dissapointment, but what if Fox and Paramount have decided to wait and see how well the Warner over-priced and trinket laden GWTW and WIZARD releases sell?? If those two titles sell in large numbers, is it possible or likely that the ALIEN and INDIE sets will also be released as "collector sets"? I don't want the crap - just give me the movies!!!

Kinda hard to "delay" something that was never set for release this year anyway. Don't always believe the rumors until an official announcement is made by the studio.

Neither one of these collections were ever officially slated to come out in the U.S. on blu-ray this year.

So...umm...you are hoping sales crash and burn on Oz and GWTW?

I think you are seeing conspiracies where they don't exist. I don't see any way that you can tie the delay for Indiana Jones and Alien into Oz or GWTW. They are totally unrelated types of films, totally different studios, and they know they are going to do well no matter what form they come out in. The delays on Indy is because of George Lucas (see the original Star Wars anywhere yet?). Alien, who knows why they are delayed? Could be Cameron. Titantic isn't out yet, either.

Or maybe they aren't coming out yet because they want to do a great job of remastering them for high def. Hey, there's a thought!

I agree. How can a movie be delayed or pushed back if it was never actually announced for release? It's all rumor. Anyway, as a fan, would I like to see them happen sooner rather than later? Sure. But at the expense of not getting them right, no way man.

And where did you read this?

Edit: Okay, you say it on The Digital Bits.

Still, I don't consider unannounced titles to be "pushed back" or "delayed".

It's the economy. Why squander a good opportunity? These big titles generate a tremendous amount of revenue for the studios. The marketing dollars spent for such releases are geared to move huge numbers initially because they loose shelf space at many brick and mortar retailers in a matter of weeks. The grim economic outlook is probably the culprit. People are being much more careful with discretionary spending—especially with the prospect of 10% or higher unemployent on the horizon.

Actually, the delay also has to do with the fact that Indy V and a new Alien picture are coming.

And with Monsters Inc., there's supposedly Monsters Inc. 2 on the horizon.

Go read the comments in the Insider Thread from the folks at Digital Bits.

Disney's output this year has been pathetic in terms of number of titles. And they're a big supporter?

I totally agree. They have a huge library of Touchstone/Hollywood Pictures and Miramax titles they have not touched. All we get is crap like The Jonas Brothers, Hannah Montana, High School Musical etc. Disney is the worst BD studio.

And Sin City, Miracle, The Greatest Game Every Played, you're right they totally blow. Their high bitrate video encodes and hd audio suck in comparison to the bit-crushed hd audioless releases from WB.

They might not be releasing as many movies as other studios, but they are releasing plenty of television series and their discs are consistently better than most every other studio this side of Criterion.

Even Official announcements are not reliable..... Monsters inc for example has had 2 official dates come and go.

Miracle, SIn City and Greatest Game are fine but if that is all the catalog titles they are releasing, it is pathetic. Not to mention how over priced the Disney catalogs are. Oh, and Warner is the other sucky BD studio. The only Disney BD I have purchased this year is Pinocchio.
