I was wondering if anyone knows what to do if you have a delay in sound?
I have a 60GB PS3 hooked up via HDMI cable to my 30 inch Samsung HDTV. I have an optical cable goiung from the tv to the home theatre sound system. However there is a slight delay in my sound of about three fourths of a second. To a person who doesnt care about sound, this doesmnt seem like a big deal. But I love sound and I notice everytime someones talking isnt lined or match with their lips. It needs to be in sync. I know if I were to hook up the PS3 directly to the sound system, there would be less of a delay. But if I were to do that, it would mean that if I want to watch a bluray movie I would have to switch the optical from the tv to the PS3, and if I jus want to watch regulary old tv or a show or movie on cable in high def and using my sound system, I would have to reach in the back of my tv and switch the wires just so that I dont get a dely. Any suggestions? and am I the only one with a delay? Whats everyone sound hook up? |

Odd one that. Latency in audio has affected some components in the past (particularly some of Denon's DVD Players) but I've not heard of it being a problem with the PS3.
It's likely that it's being caused by going through your TV though if there is no delay when the PS3 is connected directly to your processor. Any additional circuitry the signal has to navigate through is going to have an adverse effect on the speed and quality of the sound, particularly with optical (i.e. non electrical signal). Is there another way to connect your cable box to your system so you are able to leave the optical connected? |

Don't you have two optical inputs on your receiver.
Hook one up from PS3 to receiver, one from TV to receiver. Anytime the PS3 is on you're going to want the receiver on anyway. Otherwise you can get an HDMI enabled 1.1 receiver from Onkyo for less than $200 on Amazon. The 504 I believe. |

I just might do that. Thanks
Everything would work out even better though if I had a sound system that had two optical inputs, but it just has one, i checked. But I'll just use the regular av cords. And ill hook my PS3 directly up to my system via optical. I just hope that the sound for the tv is just as clear as the optical. Hey, What kind of system does everyone have and what wires are you using? whats everyones sound system hook up like? |
