It looks like you have a 5.1 set-up. If so, you have the 40's hooked up to the surrounds and not the rear surrounds, right? I only ask because your statement says you have the 40's hooked up to the "rears."

I think a simple reset might help. Double check your manual, but I think you need to turn the receiver "off", and not in the standby mode, truely off. Then hold down the direct/stereo button, and turn the unit back on. I'm doing this from memory, so double check your manual to make sure that is right. Are you putting the first microphone position in your 'sweet spot'? Let us know how that works.

OK, so after the front left tone is done, it does detect that speaker, but then when it tests the center, it states it is not detected, and then moves on to the right front and it does not detect that one either, and then so on....?

rebooting that microprocessor should hopefully help. Make sure your speakers hooked up in phase though before running Audyssey. Even though you are sure they hooked up right, it is not uncommon to receive a 'phase error' on the speakers. If you get that, you can ignore it.

This is making sure that the speaker wire that is hooked to the black terminal and red terminal on your receiver are also hooked up to the black terminal/red terminal on the speaker. If you crossed up the wire hooked up to the black terminal on the receiver to the red terminal on the speaker, this is considered "out of phase."
