Default Universal and Warner are finally getting it

Have you guys checked the street price for Watchman and Coraline lately?

Yeah, $20.49 for Coraline and $21.50 for Watchman. I hope this is a growing trend and all the studios catch on soon. Another piece of good news is these movies are getting great reviews with respect to PQ and AQ and they are very good movies to boot.

Blu-ray could really start putting a dent into DVD sales with the recent news of affordable hardware ($100 or less) and especially if the price of new releases continues to street at close the $20 price or less. Twenty eight bucks is just too much money to ask for any single movie.

With Wal-mart putting out a sub $100 player and recent catalog titles coming out, it looks like studios might be making a push for the mass public to start adopting. Once discs are considered affordable and now that players are, seems like any one with a Hi Def display has no reason NOT to go Blu!

About damn time!

I'm sick of people telling me the reason they haven't switched is because of the price, I'm always telling them it'll go down the faster the format grows, but I guess I understand with the economy and all. I feel so blessed to have the job that I have.

To be perfectly honest, those numbers sound like MSRP for DVD's. Are you sure those are for BD's or did I assume too much in thinking you were talking about Blu-rays.

No, Amazon is actually selling Watchmen and Coraline on Blu-ray at those prices.

But even so, I feel confident that even if Best Buy and the like sell at a similar price during the first week, it'll jump up to ~30 for both titles after that. This feels more like an anomaly than a new direction for pricing. Remember when TDK was like 23 dollars when it first came out? Best Buy launched the price up to about 30 after that if I recall, even if Amazon did maintain more reasonable pricing throughout.

But that said, if we can show them awesome sales numbers during the first week at these nice prices, maybe we can help bring down the trend. Buy things like this day one and avoid anything on day one that isn't reasonably priced. Eventually they should notice that they can make more money by selling more titles at a lower price than selling fewer titles at a higher price.
