Really excited about the graphic novel for the chapter that wasn’t adapted!

An incredible series. Absolute masterpiece. It's 4K HDR on Prime but all that microblocking in dark scenes was so distracting so this Blu-ray will definitely not look worse.

Definitely a release I never expected but is absolutely welcome. I hope we get more series from all streamers from Criterion. Still holding out hope I can one day get rid of my FYC dvd of Sense8 Season 1 and to get a release of the whole show.

I've been watching it on there too (on ep 7) and I agree the Blu is gonna look a lot better. The HDR is nice but even with high internet speed Amazons stream is a blocky mess a lot of the time and their subs are crazy bright.

Curious that the price for this four disk set is $80 srp, compared to say the recent Rohmer set with the same number of disks which is $125.

I really have no idea how Criterion thinks, but I would guess it has to do with the Rohmer set being four different theatrical films, while this is a singular limited television series.

Licensing cost maybe? 4 individual film, with all US rights are higher to license than a limited series for disc only release?

Criterion Forum has packaging pics up and, good news for digi haters, it is a 4-disc Scanavo.

Review is up.

Good write up, but this part perplexed me:

Quote:
If there are potential stumbling blocks in this piece, it may be its seeming "insistence" that kind hearted White folks were well nigh impossible to find if not actually nonexistent, and even those with seemingly noble helpful goals might in fact have ulterior motives.
Uh, because it's true?

Let me try to guess which reviewer wrote that without looking it up. Is there an S and an A in the name?

It’s not actually it’s Jeffrey Kauffman.

It is true.

The quote-unquote "President of the Underground Railroad" was a white abolitionist named Levi Coffin. Another white abolitionist named Thomas Garrett helped played a crucial role in assisting thousands of slaves to escape.

I really wish this got a UHD release! Especially with it already having a HDR master for Prime Video, this would've looked stunning without all of the very problematic compression issues with that stream.

Still, this miniseries is masterful and I will pick this up when I can.

I just bought this and it does indeed look better than the Amazon stream. But I wonder: which TV settings make the most sense for this disc? I keep switching between "standard" and "movie" mode to see which best suits the show and can't make up my mind.

I'd stick with movie mode, because that will get you a closer starting point to the color temperature they were using during the making of it.
