Year One

Couldn't find a Year One thread so I thought I'd make it. Great movie IMO. Funnier than the Hangover surprisingly.

Awful movie. I want my money back. Michael Cera has one expression for all his movies. Jack Black plays himself too. Same as Nacho Libre...

Totally forgettable film with a few funny moments.

I usualy like Jack Black but Nacho Libre was a bit disapointing too me. I won;t be seeing this, I will see it once it's available on a movie channel in about a year or so.

The trailers and premise for this film give me no reason to watch it..... Jack Black is the same over and over.... Wash, rinse, repeat.

I think it depends what movie you see him in. I think Black is quite good in this movie. I think the guy in your avatar is hilarious but thought he was horrible in Land of the Lost. Just depends on what movie you're seeing him in.

I agree it's over the top. I'm just a little Jack Blacked-out. Like Will Ferrell, he seems to be EVERYWHERE right now, and he's just a little too much to take.

Loved him in Airborne, though.

Since you're one of the only ones in here who has seen it, is it true that the "best parts" are shown in the previews?

Isn't this an Ivan Reitman joint? I certainly like most of his stuff.

I didn't say the other big stars of comedy aren't like this. Jim Carrey, Sascha Baron Cohen (sp), Will Ferrell.... all the same stuff, and I have the same gripe about them. It doesn't mean I can't share my opinion of Jack Black in the "Year One" thread. His role in it looks practically identical to "Nacho Libre" (minus the accent).... I thought Jack Black was better in "Enemy of the State" to be quite honest. I think the same of Steve Carrell's comedic roles, though I think he showed some of his better acting chops in "Dan in Real Life."

and it does seem like the best parts are shown in the previews...i'll definitely rent this, but i dont have a desire to dish out $13 to see it in on a big screen

I did assume, my fault. But even with the usual Apatow fare (actors in Superbad, Role Models, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, etc...) those actors are definitely pigeon-holed into typecast (albeit hilarious) roles.

I don't think so. On the other hand though, I definitely thought that Land of the Lost's "best parts" were all shown in the previews/trailers.

Good point but from the previews i though Danny McBride was funny in Land of the Lost, but i will never see it cuz it look awful
