Default Generation Kill - Have you seen it?

Was looking at this Blu-Ray over the weekend and had it in my cart a few times but $54.99 is a huge blind buy. WHat do you guys think of it that have seen it?

Heard it was a modern Band of Brothers, but that could be hog$hit.

I haven't seen it either, but by all accounts its pretty great. You can expect pretty much anything from HBO to be quality stuff.

Yeah, it is pretty good.
However, unless you are a Marine or former Marine, you may not understand some of the stuff... the little things, really.

Seen it. It sucks. Watch Band of Brothers repeatedly before wasting any time on Generation hog$hit.

Just watched disc 1 and 2, waiting for 3 to show up from netflix. I thought it was good but, not BoB good. It is seeming to get better as it goes on so I can't wait to see disc 3. I think its a good rental but not worth a buy.

Band of Brothers is a little more dramatized. Like with the use of slow motion, a score that plays during the battles, etc. It's probably my favorite series ever. Generation Kill is much like a documentary in the sense that it doesn't use the conventions of BoB. This works very well and the show is brutal, funny, and very realistic. I highly recommend both.

I enjoyed Generation Kill very much. It does not make sense to compare it to Band of Brothers. They are both good, but are different types of dramas with very different presentations.

I REALLY wanted to see this and was going to buy it until I realized it wasn't "real" footage. It still looks good though. I was expecting a documentary style movie. Watch some clips on youtube first if you are unsure of something. That's what I do! It can save you some money sometimes.

I want to see this, but I my give it a rental. The Wire was one of the best TV shows I've ever seen.

I was going to go see Star Trek, but I found out the footage wasn't real. Damn.

There's a lot of discrepancies but what do you expect from a hollywood film/series. I'm half way through it.

I liked GK very much but there is no way to compare it to BOB.

First of all BOB was written by Maj. Dick Winters as where GK was written by a rolling stones writer. But it does show you the difference in the times and how different life and wars can be.

Rent it first to be safe. Completely different than BoB, in many ways.

I enjoyed it quite a bit, but not enough to own it. I watched it because I'd heard it was from the creators of The Wire, which was an outstanding show that I'd buy on Blu-ray the first day. I do not recommend blind-buying Generation Kill.

Sorry you were disappointed that Star Trek wasn't real. I meant "real" footage as in actual war footage, genius.

Thumbs down It's no Band of Brothers...

I didn't care for this series in the sense that I thought at times it presented our service people as crude, racist, white-trash rednecks. In fairness, at other times it seemed to have insights into what their day to day experiences were.
