This may get moved to "Wish Lists", but I thought for the people who wants to see this film and in blu-ray, might want to see if their is an answer.
This film comes out Nov 17th on dvd. Is their going to be a blu-ray release in the near future? For those who don't know about the film: "From the acclaimed director of the global hit Old Boy comes a shockingly original vampire story with a chilling, erotic style. A blood transfusion saves the life of a priest, but also transforms him into a vampire. He struggles to control his insatiable thirst for blood until a love affair unleashes his darkest desires in deadly new ways. Hailed as “Daring, operatic, and bloody funny!” (Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly), Thirst is a truly wicked love story that takes classic vampire lore to twisted new heights." |

What I'm thinking is that since the Korean DVD release still hasnt been stated, Focus might be pressured by the film's Korean distributor for a Region A Bluray, so the Koreans don't lose sales to an early American release.
I certainly hope a Korean release with many extras will be ported for an American extras-filled release. But then again, this is Focus, which passed on a Bluray of Jim Jarmusch's latest too. I'm interested to see what the UK version will have for extras. |

Wow, I just bought this disc off Amazon and it's the Korean Limited Edition for $40. I'm just so impressed. The shipment was sent from Hanbooks and I placed my order Friday night and just recieved the package in mint condition Monday afternoon. For $40 to have this release is just wonderful. Plus the fact it arrived mint. Just thought if anyone else wanted to know I think there's still more available.

I'm considering buying the Korean Directors Cut release of Thirst. I already own the UK release which is excellent but I'd really like to see the directors cut's 14 extra minutes and different transfer.
Can anyone tell me if those extra 14 minutes add much to the experience? I don't want to know specifically what's included but is it better? It's hard to justify spending $40 on just the movie but I do love Park Chan-Wook and this was an excellent movie. |

I just bit the bullet! I ordered the Korean Blu-ray, as pictured above, from kpopmart.com for $34.90US plus $6.90US shipping. I've never ordered from kpopmart before -- never even heard of them before now -- but they get the okay from webutation.net, so hopefully I'm okay.
I've NEVER paid so much for a movie, but this ain't available in North America at all, and it's a brilliant flick! |

Still waiting on a US release of this. I limit myself to region A releases or else I would be bombarded with blu rays I want that aren't available here yet. Ex. Thirst, Chaser, Transformers (1987), Mr Nobody, etc , etc.
I know it will just be a matter of time before they are released. |

The package from kpopmart.com arrived today, and I'm midly disappointed to find that they shipped me the plain edition even though they have a picture of the first press limited edition on their website.
When I contacted them the first time about this (a week or so ago, thanks to the picture they emailed me of the contents of the box), there was no response, but they did reply to my Facebook post about it saying that it's available only for preorder -- even there's no mention of that on their website whatsoever -- and so the plain edition is what will be shipped. My reply that I paid for the limited edition was met with no reply at all. So be forewarned: if you wish to order Thirst on Blu-ray from kpopmart, they will ship you the plain edition. Er...aside from the packaging, is there any difference in the content? I know the plain edition dropped the Korean subtitles, but that's of no use to me anyway. Is the supplemental package the same? |

I don't know about the supplements as they're all in Korean, I do have a suggestion if you're looking to import Korean BDs in the future. On eBay, there are two sellers named Weagin or Kushaget that are both excellent sellers and they often have the first pressings. I've ordered The Chaser, Castaway on the Moon, Welcome to Dongmakgol, Thirst and a couple others from one or the other of them. It usually ends up being about 40 dollars, but for the most part it's worth it. Sure, you probably won't be able to enjoy the special features if you don't speak Korean, but the film is the only part that actually matters. I will say that occasionally you may come across a typo or something in the subtitles, but on a whole, the subtitles are better than what most Americans could produce.

Just a quick word about ordering Thirst from kpopmart for anyone interested. Consider this a supplement to my previous post (#12):
After three weeks of waiting for kpopmart to respond to my complaint about receiving the plain edition instead of the limited edition and getting zero response, I finally caved and opened up the plastic wrap on the plain edition so that I could watch the movie. I figured that it had been three weeks, I'm never going to hear from these people. One week later (this is a full month after sending in my complaint), they responded. They said that if I mail them back the plain edition, they will send me the limited edition -- in other words, they had it the whole time. But they would only do so if the Blu-ray I send them is still sealed in its original wrap. Well, of course, mine wasn't, because I did finally open it up. Three weeks with no response? Obviously customer service isn't going to diddly, so why not enjoy the movie I bought? When I told them that I opened it up because after a full month of waiting for a response and assuming I would never hear from them again and that I was stuck with the limited edition and so I opened it, they told me that there's nothing they could do, they were sorry that I didn't care for their customer service, and stopped responding to my emails. Long story short: If you order Thirst on Blu-ray from kpopmart, and they send you the plain edition and you prefer the limited edition, contact them, but don't open the wrap for at least a month. It may take them that long to get back to you. Now, I have no idea if there's any difference between the two editions. For all I know, they're identical. So perhaps I haven't lost anything except for a cooler looking box. Whatever. I have the movie. I love it. :-) |

It seems that the Kino Lorber US issue of Thirst for June 04, 2019 does not have the director's cut (https://www.kinolorber.com/product/thirst-Blu-ray) and it is only 135 minutes. The British Tartan video release of Thirst was 133 minutes and the Korean Thirst's director's cut was 144 minutes. The director's cut is the best version and it tells the story better in a more rounded way. Unfortunately, if there is no Thirst's director's cut then Kino will be missing out more sales! Hopefully in the future Criterion does pick up Thirst's director's cut.
