Default Hoser59's living room HT

I've changed this thread to more of a HT thread then one specific to my projector. It started off as more of a build thread...

__________________________________________________ _________________________

Like alot of people on this forum in the last few months, I am starting to build a projector set up. Things are just starting to arrive and go together now, so I will be updating this thread as things progress. In the mean time check out how things stand now...

https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ga...&folderid=2786

Now that the screen is up the anticipation to watch a movie is almost unbearable. I have never owned a projector before or even seen one outside of a store display so I'm hoping to be blown away

Finished...for now

There are build pictures through out the thread but here is the finished product

Blackout Curtains

Screen Up

Screen Down

Projector Up (just need to paint the raceways)

Rated your gallery 9/10. The PJ and Screen is a nice upgrade, I'm sure you are going to love the difference! How is the diagonal set-up working out as far as the side surrounds?

Very Nice Set-Up,Indeed.

I see a Great Future Home Theater in these Pics. You are going to be a Hard Core Home Theater Junkie Once You Watch Your First Blu-Ray On the Projector With That Screen.

I Look Forward To Keeping Up With Your Great Progress.
And I Love The Polk Monitor 70's for Your Front Speakers.Very Nice Looking Flat HDMI Cable ,Makes A Great Statement Not Being The Traditional Black Were Used To.
(Also Left A Comment In Your Gallery)

You Will Have One Merry Christmas and Happy New Year if The Projector Comes Before Then.Any Ideas On What Projectors Your Looking At? Or Have You Already Made That Decision?

Vega2K:

The diagonal setup is not ideal but I have to make the wife happy. The side surrond are balanced nicely when sitting in the leather chair or on either end of the couch next to it but I imagine they might be a little distracting if you sat right beside them (I've never tried). I hope to upgrade to some bipoles for the side and rear surrounds sometime in the future.

talstarone:

I have already ordered an Optoma HD200x (Canadian version of the HD20). It should be here tomorrow, although the mount is yet to arrive so for the first couple of days it might be sitting on a box

Good choice with the Optoma Brand.
They get Great Reviews on all of their models. So I would expect nothing less from the HD20.

And if you do have to use it on the box at first it will still give you some glorious images.I have my projector upright on a shelf instead of the ceiling. And I simply Love it.

After watching the First Blu-Ray with the Screen and Projector,it was like getting bit from the Home Theater Bug even worse then the First Time.It will certainly make you want to watch a Movie everyday you get a chance.
When I watch one today it will be 3 out of the last 4 since I installed my screen Friday.

And when you make the move to Bipoles for your surrounds you will find your Surround Sound is Worlds Better then you ever thought possible. It gives you that Real Theater Sound,no matter where you sit.

There are No weak or dead spots where you dont hear regular speakers as surrounds very well in certain areas in the room.
A Projector and Bipole Surrounds with what you already have will be Upgrades that Make Your Home Theater just like a Real Theater.

Again,Congratulations,my Friend.

UPS tracking says my projector is out for delivery right now so I will definitely be watching my first movie on the big screen tonight. I am hoping the mount arrives before the weekend as I am going out of town for a bachelor party and I wanted to having everything finished so my wife and her girlfriends could watch movies while I am gone

If I were you I would definitely hurry so that they watch movies instead of having male strippers stop by just to get even.

Hey hoser59,

Great start. Hope you get your projector up and running tonight.

I have purchased two of those flat cables and couldn't get them to work consistently. So hook it up and make sure they work right before you do the final install. It would be horrible to have to remove everything and start over.

You're telling me! Me and nine other guys are going to Whistler BC for three days so she is already concerned about what kind of mischief I might get into. She might just do a pre-emptive strike

Thanks for the tip. I was planning on doing that anyway but a reminder never hurts. Were your cables long runs as well? I have read that HDMI in general can have some issues with long runs but I'm hoping the powered splitter will help. It claims to bost the signal for runs of up to 15m

No, they were only 2m. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I haven't purchased any "flat" hdmi cables since. Just wanted to give you a heads up just in case.

I appreciate it. I always have to remember when setting things up to take my time and test every connection and component so that I don't have to tear things apart again at the end. It's easy to let the excitement of getting a new peice of equipment make you rush through the set up

The following picture should be accompanied by an angelic choir

Still haven't received the ceiling mount, so below is my ghetto temporary setup so I could play with it and then watch a move

Next up are three terrible low resolution screen shots

You can see I didn't spend alot of time trying to level the picture but the unit itself had more options for adjustment then I was expecting.

Impressions so far:

I may never watch my tv again! The clarity, color and sharpness of the picture blew me away. Even standard def football looked good (which is good because the Grey Cup is on Sunday up here in Canada and it will be our first 'Projector Party'). Even with all the lights turned on and the unit set on bright mode the picture was perfectly visible, although a little washed out, but will be great for sports. It looks like a 92" LCD and the picture is perfect from any seat. I had to get within 1' of the screen to even be able to make out pixels. Black levels aren't the greatest but I think they are more then adaquate for the price paid and a lot of work could be done in my room to improve them. Didn't notice any rainbows and the unit is relatively quiet. I sat in the leather chair right behind it and it wasn't bad at all. Once it is mounted on the ceiling I doubt it will ever be noticable.

Watching Star Trek last night was awesome. It was immersive and it even made the sound seem better. Audio pans seemed to have more weight and precision to them as your eyes had to move across the larger screen in the direction of the sound. All in all I could not be happier with the purchase and my wife said it's the best peice of HT gear we have ever purchased. Stay tuned as eventually the mount will arrive

Here, here.....congrats Hoser. The Optoma looks real good. It will look even better when you mess with the colors and settings. You reaction to the pj set-up sounded a lot like mine.....when I first saw it, I just stood there, hypnotized...trying to make myself believe what I was actually witnessing was true.......its an amazing experience to see a picture that big for the first time.
