Default Bricked my iPhone!

Updating to OS 3.0 yesterday, there was an "uknown error" and it would not update, would not restore and now won't power on. It's dead. Nearest Apple store is 3 hours away, so I will have to wait for an exchange to be shipped (Monday or Tuesday).

If you haven't updated yours yet, I recommend waiting a few days at least to see if others have problems.

You got to hate firmware updates that go screwy, I have destroyed

I upgraded several iPhones up to 3.0 without a hitch last week.

Try putting it into recovery mode and then plug into iTunes. That should do the trick.

These sites can be helpful:

For Recovery Mode

For DFU mode(Only if Recovery Mode doesn't work)

3Gs is supposed to be faster. Is the processor faster, or is it simply downloading faster? If the latter, is it only in 3G environment? I don't need to upgrade, but my wife might. She uses hers extensively at work.

No, it's dead. It won't power on, and the PC won't recognize it when plugged in. I spent plenty of time with tech support on the phone. My replacement will arrive on Monday. It sucks! All of my cocktail recipes are on the damn thing.

A co-worker has a 3G and his manager has the 3G S. The held tem side by side and ran some of the same applications and loaded some of the same pages. The 3G S was significantly faster in all cases. It is my understanding that it is a new faster processor.

I was sent the technical specs a while back, but never read them. I wasn't that interested at the time. I just knew I wanted one of the 32GB ones.

I had mine do the same thing before, but was eventually able to put it in DFU (recovery) mode and get it up and running again.

It happened with the 2.0 update, now that I think about it.

I was finally able to get the phone into recovery mode using this method, but I am only back where I started. Recovery fails with an "unkown error" every attempt.

Making progress there. Just make sure you're not trying to restore from a previous backup. Perhaps there's something in your backup that it doesn't like.

It is a completely different processor and it also twice as powerful while maintaining battery life. Also the ram was doubled from 256 to 512MB.

Correct me if I am wrong, but it was 128 to 256 memory increase. Not 256 to 512 if memory serves. :/

Not 100% sure. Another forum that I belong to says it's 256 to 512. Either way I remember review sites saying it was doubled.

No, that's not it. It does say it's trying to restore to defaults. It doesn't matter now, anyway. The replacement should arrive tomorrow.

Prepare for 720p recording on the iPhone in the future. It's inside a 3GS iPhone.

My guess is that the ATT network isn't ready for such a feature. It already takes forever to email a 45sec video to my brothers iPhone via 100% 3G signal strength.

That's why it's not active. Also, not sure if you ever looked at an iphone to iphone video, but it sucks.

I bricked my iPhone this weekend, but genius here did it by jumping in a pool with my phone in my pocket. So f**kin dumb!! First time in 13 years of cell phone use that I've ever done something like this. Jeez!!
