Default Onkyo 607 Problem: Help with TrueHD & DTS Master

Just received my Onkyo 607 receiver and connected it to my Samsung 720p TV and PS3 (via HDMI cables). I'm an audio newb, and I can't seem to figure out how to get TrueHD or DTS Master Audio working on the 607 when I select it via a Blu-ray movie. The "PCM" and "HDMI" indicators light up on the receiver regardless of what track I select, and there are separate indicates for TrueHD, DTS etc that don't light up at all. I've tried looking through the Onkyo settings and haven't stumbled upon anything....anyone know of some possible solutions? Thanks guys, any help is appreciated

Problem has been solved. Thanks for everyone's help.

*Note: I know I've seen related threads with a similar problem but I couldn't locate any specific ones...If someone is able to direct me to it I'll continue the discussion in that thread and this one can be closed

The PS3 cannot bitstream, so you will never have TrueHD or DTS-HDMA light up on your receiver.

I also recall reading something about the PS3 not being able to decode one of the audio codecs yet and it may be coming in a future FW update (which solves part of my problem)? I don't remember where I saw it though Thanks guys, any help is appreciated

Sorry, but JasonR's reply is correct. You still can get the HD audio only sent to your receiver as LPCM (just means the player decodes it and streams the audio multichannel to the receiver) you can or should be able to get it on your receiver by scrolling through the listening modes to either direct or multichannel (multichannel gives you enhances deeper sound in my opinion) either one will give you the 5 or 7.1 channels being output by the PS3 at the time. However, if you want to see your codecs light up on your player, your gonna have to buy a standalone player that bitstreams the two HD codecs (DTHD & DTS-HD-MA) and you'll be in business after that. by the way, there is NO GETTING AROUND THIS, EVER!, no codecs will be light up on your receiver from the PS3, sorry! best of luck to you!

I've done all of the above, but still it shows no difference between the audio formats... Example: I'm playing Incubus Alive at Red Rocks, and when its set to 5.1 DD, my receiver shows MCH PCM 5.1 fs: 48 kHz, and when I choose 5.1 LPCM it shows MCH PCM 5.1 fs: 48 kHz... I am not getting HD audio am I? My receiver is an Onkyo 605

yes you are.

PCM is uncompressed audio, which means the PS3 is decoding the audio for you. The PS3 cannot bitstream audio, so your receiver will never say DTS-HDMA or TRUEHD or anything to that effect.

No, but shouldn't there be a difference on the display between DD and LPCM?

On your PS3, when watching the movie, press select on your controller. It'll give you all the information of what's playing. Up in the right hand corner, it'll tell you whether it's playing Dolby Digital, DTS, Linear PCM, etc.
