Default Sony BDP-S350 crashed

My BDP-S350 crashed this morning. It froze with the word "WELCOME" on the screen and sat there for a few minutes. It then turned off and wouldn't turn back on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and when it turned on it just displayed "SYS ERROR" on the onboard screen. I've taken it in for service and the authorized service center will be looking at it (under warranty thankfully), but I find it bizarre that the unit worked fine last night and then just failed this morning. Anyone else ever experienced something like this?

How long have you had the player? Could a power surge cause the system to malfunction like that? Strange, I have not heard of this yet.

Nothing unusual about that with electronics. Sometimes they can work one minute and the next minute they can fail. However, the question that needs to be answered is whether the player had a defective part or whether something else caused the issue as icyteddy has mentioned.

I've had it about 10 months, and its power is run through a surge protector along with my LCD TV and video game consoles. I'll be interested to see what the repair center comes back with.

hate to say it but I've had 2 players go south on my in a ridiculously short time-- my first, a Panasonic lasted only 6 months--

after that experience I decided to buy my next one from Costco since they will let you exchange a def unit for 2 years plus! Bought the Sony 350
equivelant there and guess what? Lasted 9 months and I just exchanged mine hassle free this past week for a new one--

I do not watch movies all day-- I use my player for no more than 2 hours
each night (if I'm home) at best--

surprised to see how vulnerable the players seem to be....

same here, i have had two players go defective on me, a sony bdp-s300, blu-ray playback went, then so did DVD, i bought a panny bd-30 at that point since i had just bought my stereo and wanted the lossless codecs, and that also went south with the dvd playback although it still plays blu-rays although it does seem to make some odd loud noises at times.

I smoke but not a lot and i also have a very large open living room, that could have something to do with it, and as far as the dvd playback is concerned i rarely watch cable so i do give my players a workout with TVDVD's which i set to play all and let them run, and had probably 1 to many nights of falling asleep and the panny being stuck on the menu screen for hours. The sony however there is no excuse for as that broke on me after maybe 5-6 months, and really didn't have to much excess playing.

I just got a S350 tonight lol, blu player number 3, hopefully this one lasts, only cost me $75 though so for that price i just need it to last as long as it takes to get my panny shipped in and fixed under warranty. I do think some of the problem with the standalones is they are having corners cut to try and stay competitive with the ps3, which helped and is helping the blu cause, but hurting as far as other companies players and price points.

R.I.P. - Sony BDP-S300........ 5 months old
R.I.P. - Panny BD-30 dvd playback.........about 5 months of sub standard dvd playback and soon to be resurected as my blu only player while i use the s350 for DVD upconversion

Default Crashed blu ray players

Sorry u guys are having so much trouble with blu ray players. I must admit that was my concern with buying a high def machine. However, I purchased the sony bdp-S300 two years ago and it still works just fine. A year ago it froze up once, but after a firmware update I havent had the problem since. I wish you guys the best with your new machines or recently repaired machines.
