HDMI is not HDMI, there are 2 categories, category 1 and category 2. Category 1 cables are only certified to pass a 1080i signal and have a bandwidth of 75 mhz. Category 2 cables can pass 1080p and beyond and are 375 ish mhz.

The monoprice cables happen to be Cat 2 but beware of these 10 cent cables all over Amazon and Ebay.

While I would be a little leary purchasing off of Ebay, the Amazon cables are 1.3b Cat 2.

I have several and they all work fine.

I think the biggest difference is build quality. The above mentioned Amazon cables look to be rather thin. This could cause the internal cabling to break easier. However, if you get an HDMI cable that is too stiff and heavy, it could damage your HDMI port in the TV or receiver. So, I guess it comes down to which is the lesser of two evils.

I personally chose to get all mine from Blue Jeans Cables just because they had the lengths that I wanted.

I use 15' braided 1.3b cables I got from amazon for $9 they work great and were really easy to run inside my wall as well. Monoprice seems to be a very good company to. Just stay away from anything with the word "Monster" on it.

Stick with brands like Monoprice / Blue Jeans cables, all of the product descriptions on their sites will tell you if it's category 2 certified.

Are you asking about the cables or the port specification? Cables are cables and generally they will all work to some extent at the highest spec, but you could have problems in long lengths, cheaper build, etc. The specification for the HDMI interface is the manufacturer's implementation and design, what their chipset is going to transmit and expect to receive. If you are buying new equipment always get the highest spec you can, obviously price could be a factor if you are like me and look at bargains on discontinued equipment. Discontinued equipment usually has lower specs and you could be forfeiting features like BD-Live, etc. At this point most equipment is fully capable of 1.3B which I think includes all the features.

One other thing to remember when buying a cable is that it should be at least 2M long to avoid reflected signals from interfering with the bitstream. Too long and you will have signal strength issues on a cheap cable, too short can create problems as well. It is too complicated to explain but if you think of snapping a rope tied to a hook, the wave rides down the rope and then reflects back at a much reduced level; when the cable is very short the reflected wave can come all the way back and reflect again at the near end. Essentially this is how a piano string creates specific notes, only the wavelengths that are an exact harmonic for the length of the wire are generated in full strength - getting way off track. In electrical cabling this happens all the time and the components have to decide which parts of the signal is valid and which should be rejected, a short cable can make that decision process fail.

Don't spend out of your ass for 1.3 certified, pretty much its all jokes around

Sure they can justify 1.3 but there's a few of us like me that know better.

The thread listed over me shows HDMI cable that work and work well

And thats my 2 cents

Good luck
