United Kingdom Comic Book/Super Heroes release thread

Have looked but couldn't find a thread like this - we could use it to discuss all things comic book and super hero on blu. Obviously we have the Superman collection release coming soon and have recently had The Green Hornet released. Later this year we will have Thor, Priest, X-Men: First Class and Green Lantern to look forward to along with much later releases of Captain America and Cowboys and Aliens.

So what's everyone favourite comic book movies, what releases are you still waiting for on blu and what are you most looking forward to coming out soon on blu?

I quite like this post on boxofficemojo with takings for all the comic book movies:-

I love all the comic book movies, I think Superman is still my favourite though. But I love the detours like A History of Violence, Road To Perdition and Ghost World.

And you've got to have a soft spot for Flash Gordon, The Rocketeer and Supergirl.

I still haven't seen Kick-Ass or Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, I enjoyed the Kick-Ass graphic novel it was good unwholesome fun and I've enjoyed the Pilgrim books as well (I loved the bit when Scott climbed into Ramona's bag hiding from an Evil-Ex)).

I'm waiting for a quiet day to crank up the sound on Scott Pilgrim I don't really want to watch it on 'Night Mode' on my receiver I think it deserves to be loud....

ALL of 'em, except for Ang Lee's less than dire 'HULK'.

Can't wait for 'Captain America', 'X-Men : First Class' and mostly 'The Amazing Spider-Man'.

Batman Returns is easily my favourite comic book film. As for Blu-ray releases I want, I still need to purchase Begins to complete my live action Warner Bros series on the format.

Spider-Man
Batman Begins
Kick-Ass
Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
Watchmen

And of course, The Dark Knight. Not only the best comic book movie ever made, but one of the best films ever made.

I used to think so, too. I found it quite difficult to sit through the last time I watched it, however. It was heavily contrived and forced its messages and values down the throat of the viewer. I don't think repeat viewings are too kind to Nolan's films.

I think you might be in the minority on this thread but each to their own

USA Roger Corman's 'Fantastic Four'......

.... Just kidding. Although the recent spat of comicbook films have been pretty entertaining and well made, I personally think 'Donner's 'Superman' is the template for what makes a comicbook film great. Sure it's a bit dated and some of the scenes are downright silly, but it had a great script, wonderful acting and direction, and for it's time, some great effects. But most important, the filmmakers not only took the subject matter somewhat seriously, they were able to captured the heart of the comic, IMHO. It would be another 24 years before another comicbook film got it right.

I think it's All*Star Superman you're after and there's no sign of it yet. We don't get luck with the animated stuff but I guess we're lucky it's all Warner Bros. for the DC films and they should be region free.
