Default Very Inconsistent Quality

So I sat down tonight to watch some Torchwood: Children of Earth. According to the review, the pictures is 1080i and they only gave it a 3.0. My thing is, it looks phenomenal in comparison to some of the other things I have watched on Blu-Ray. Everything looks so crisp and clear.

So, my question is, have I done something wrong to make it look so much better, or is there some setting on my TV that would make 1080i look way better than 1080p?

My TV is a Samsung LN32A450.

Thanks so much!

The reviewer may have given it a lower score if the video has a lot of noticeable processing. If it looks good to you then thats all that matters.

My real concern is though, that my settings are off making the majority of my other Blus less good looking

The only way you can be certain that your settings are correct would be to have it calibrated. You could try it yourself with a calibration disc or pay to have it done for you.

I agree. For the meantime, make sure that if you have a LCD it is not set to touch mode. Set it to Normal until you get it calibrated.

Thumbs up Calibration

I agree 100%. Go to http://www.amazon.com and order a DVE calibration disc. They are inexpensive and by using it you will have your HDTV set to as near as perfect for your house as is possible. Then there will be no more guessing on your settings !

2 things you need to know, 1080i = 1080p assuming the de-interlacing is done correctly. In which case it all depends on what you are comparing this release to. The review here seems to have a critique on a bunch of little errors and certain scenes lowering the score, while the overall image itself sounds good from the review.

EXAMPLE: you watch torchwood 1080i, young guns 1080p, fifth element 1080p (not remaster).....

odds are very good 1080i torchwood will look the best as the other two even in 1080p were horrible, it is all about source, transfer, and of course some subjectivity.

I agree everyone should adjust their tv, and look into proper settings so you are getting the most out of your set... but 1080i does NOT mean it will look worse then 1080p if everything is handled correctly.
