Default Silent Hill PQ

I got to watch half of this last night. I bought the USA version, its fantastic PQ. I can't imagine whats better about the German version.

I think people on this forum actually look for problems with prints. Personally I think its a good print.

I enjoyed this movie a lot. THis was my very first BD and was too busy with the oohhh's and aaahhh's to see any flaws in the movie.

either you will love it or hate it...

interesting side story in the Silent Hill realm...but, if you have never played the games, it comes off with a lot of holes in the storyline.

I really enjoyed it....can't complain about Pyramid Head in hidef.

There's compression artifacts in the U.S. release that aren't in the German one. Different codecs were used. I'm not saying that the U.S. disc is bad in any way shape or form.

I'm so glad I have the German release. Obviously the differences will be subtle but those who are good with detecting the common problems will notice them.

Cool

Just picked this one up because I love the movie, and it's nowhere to be found here in Canada.

When an image had both dark and light parts, you can see compression pixelation in the dark areas. It's pretty ugly but only if you look and find it.

Thats true I noticed a lot of people watch a great film but just look for the bad details. Like my Moma always says always look at the good things in life.
IMO The movie "300" is supposed to look grainy. Isnt it supposed to be a film straight from the novel. Kind of like comic pages. That was my impression.

I watched the rest of it now, i'd give it a solid 4/5. Some parts are 5/5. I'd say any codec issues are negligible. I thought I was buying a predator or a sleepy hollow.

Silent Hill looked pretty good for one of the early BDs but it does have its flaws to the trained eye. The German Blu-ray looks a little better(though be aware it's just a bitrate starved HD DVD encode). I imagine when this title gets double dipped by Sony that it will look much better though. This movie needs 50 GB for maximum quality.

Can I ressurect this thread? Best Buy has this on sale for $15. I'm currently in the process of finishing selling all of my HD DVDs, and I'd like to replace my Silent Hill import with this one since it's a good price, and I'm a little more interested in the best AQ over PQ.

Can anyone who's seen this recently weigh in on the PQ? Can anyone post a couple screenshots?

I give it a 3.5 but the grain is due to the nature of the movie. But as far as the movie itself its one of the better game movies ever made that sticks somewhat true to the game IMO.

Sigh. UK version. Same PQ as the German. Under $20...
