Looking for recommendation on best seperate speaker and amp pairing with Blu Ray without spending a bundle a system ($1,000 max). Will of course use Blu Ray as primary disc player (video and audio CDs) so not looking for a system requiring purchase of a new player. Just good sound!

Just for reference, what kind of speaker arrangement would your room be capable of? Are you limited to a sound bar like setup, a 2.0 setup, a 5.1 setup, a 6.1 setup, a 7.1 setup? Or anything in between (like a 3.1 system, or 5.2 system, or 9.4 system)? Would it be possible for you to purchase the receiver, purchase the front sound stage and then save for the rear sound stage (like surround speakers) and maybe another subwoofer? I can give you a quick setup if you don't want to really get into it (check out my signature links below including my Home Theater Virgins link). Just giving options.

I would start first with going to a store to audition some systems - most displays at stores, and some more upscale stores with viewing rooms - will have Blu-Ray players hooked up to receivers and speakers to demo. Start there, have a listen, and then you might be able to have an idea what you like and what you can afford. Speakers will sound different to each of us, so select what sounds best to you. |

Mine as follows:
Blu-ray: Samsung BD-P1600 ($145 from amazon) Receiver: Onkyo 607 ($374 from 6ave) Speaker: Polk Audio Monitor 30 (2 pairs)+ CS1 ($90*2+$70 = $250 from newegg) Acoustic Audio HD-Sub 12 ($170 from ebay) Total $939, right fit your budget Actually if you already have blu-ray player, you can replace monitor 30 front with Monitor 60 ($120). Still fit your budget. You will be happy Quote:

Speakers and amp/receiver size depends on the size of your space and what your expectations are.
You should look for used speakers, all from the same manufacturer and matching model line to get fairly even sound characteristics across the soundstage. Your budget is low to get anything that will snap your head and think 5.1 not 7.1. |
