Default Help Me Pick A Blu-player!!!

Hey guys (and girls), was wondering if I could get your thoughts helping me decide between a player. Firstly, the PS3 is not an option mainly because I already spend hours on my Xbox and I don't need to add to that addiction. The three I'm really considering are the Oppo BDP-83 ($500), the LG BD390 ($400), and a Panasonic DMP-BD60 ($200).

My major criteria are simply that the player needs to be able to bitstream all HD codecs and I believe all three of these do. I have a Panasonic DMP-BD10A now which I have had for two years and is an excellent player although it won't bitstream my HD audio codecs. If you have a different player under the $500 price tag that you would like to offer (again, not PS3 please), please do so.

I think Wi-Fi built in is a great idea, but not a deal breaker. Also, don't woory about up-converting standard DVDs as I have an Oppo 981-HD which does that marvelously and handles all discs other than Blu-Ray. Thanks guys.

You are familiar with Oppo, so I am sure that you know the quality of those products. However, if you are going to keep your upconverting dvd player and are not using analog outputs, then I would say the $300 price difference between the Oppo and the Panasonic is what it comes down to.

Are you willing to pay more than twice as much for a product that while better built does not provide any additional functionality?

First, thanks for the reply. That is exactly the question. I LOVE Oppo products and can speak to their quality. No, I'll definitely use the HDMI fro my lossless audio and that was my thought exactly. May I ask why you chose the Oppo?

I don't know what you mean by that? You mean a 48-bit PCM track?

I'm using the analog outputs to some older seperates that I didn't want to get rid of. IMO, the analog section of this player is better than anything else near the same price.

I have an LG300, PS3 and a Samsung 3600 (Which I love) but if this is your first I would say go with the Oppo. I don't think I have read or heard a bad thing about the Oppo line. I am considering ditching my LG 300 and get the Oppo 83. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. This will actually be my 2nd Blu-Ray player, again my only complaint is that my Panny does not bitstream HD codecs now and I want that!

You can't go wrong with the Oppo BDP-83. It has excellent image quality, and it loads BD content even faster than the PS3.

I would definitely go with the Oppo BDP-83. I've heard nothing but good things about it. It's making me wish I hadn't bought the Panasonic DMP-BD80. The panny BD80 is a great player, but the things people are saying about the Oppo BDP-83, sounds to good to pass up!
