eh? Universal is region locking titles? man that sucks.

I've never really understood the 'censored' scene in the film, as i havnt seen the R1 DVD. according to DvdCompare.net the edited print is on R4 & R2 DVD.

The cut of the magistrate's throat being slit is cut on R2 via a reframing of the shot done by Gibson at the behest of The BBFC. On R1 the shot is seen full on whilst on R2 it is obscured by camera technique/reframing.

If anyone can provide the frames for the scene in R1, which is 'unedited', I can provide the frames for the R4.

All Frames of Magistrate Throat Slit (R4 AUS DVD):

It would be weird if this scene was edited, as there are more brutal shots in the film which contain more blood/gore compared to this (ie; Dagger in the eye, head crushed with ball on chain, sword into skull etc).

Well I went and bought the region A version not knowing its locked. I guess this goes some way to making my purchase a little more bearable since its locked. I have a region A player I just don't like buying movies that are locked to A.

Is this supposed to be the cut scene. Doesn't look cut to me. So is the region 1/A really bloodier then this i find that hard to imagine

The difference is in the last frame pictured above. Sorry I don't have the abiility to capture photos but I can describe it.

Instead of the over the shoulder shot seen in the UK version, the US theatrical version stays on the magistrate as his throat splits open on camera and blood pours out from the wound. The magistrate then slumps onto Wallace's shoulder as he dies (at this point the shot switches to behind the magistrate). Wallace shrugs off the body in disgust.

Thanks Steve. I wonder if the cut will be waived on the new Blu-ray.

Depends on if Fox resubmitted the film to the BBFC but I just checked the BBFC website and they list Braveheart as passed with cuts. So that is unlikely at this point.

with CUTS??? so now they have even cut more out for the new blu ray.

Are they completely insane i can understand if it were for TV. But a product you buy to own and watch at home. Is just WRONG in everyway

can you show me a link for the bbfc i can only find Braveheart form the 90's on there site. No new one from 2009. so where have you seen that it is cut?

That is the one I am referring to. I believe the BBFC uses the same disclaimer on titles with one cut or multiple cuts to a film.

It would be weird to use a disclaimer that says passed with cut or passed with a cut.

Fox has not resubmitted the film to the BBFC so the only version is the one passed in 1995.

I hate to break it to you, dingus, but Fox has to resubmit the film for re-classification. Nothing to do with the BBFC, so give it a rest.

Violence is cut but you get more graphic sex scenes.

I don't remember the dagger through the eye, but I do remember the pick through the helmet.

haha yeah, the dagger in the eye is quite a quick shot, its during a huge battle, it suddenly cuts to this guy kneeling and getting a dagger in the eye, he makes a 'yeaaaarh!' sound. quite funny if you've seen the film heaps of times.
