The F/X in 'Blade Runner is timeless.

One could say the same about the T-Rex in 'Jurassic Park'. I don't think any movies, not even the 'Lord of the Rings' trilogy has achieved what they did with 'Jurassic Park' and 'Blade Runner'.

F/X isn't what it used to be.

People keep saying how amazing the special effects are in 'Spider-Man', but I just don't see it. Honestly, I thought the special effects were terrible in all three of the Spider-Man movies.

VFX is all about its place in the movie - ie context. The VFX in Blade Runner can easily be made right now. In fact, you can even make it even more complex - look at the Star Wars Ep 2-3. In fact, even Akira has some scenes looking like the cityscape - an homage on an adaptation of a Japanese culture.

I think the reason why the VFX in Blade Runner works is because of the score and what the sequence means - a sense of wonderment.

Jurassic Park's VFX works because it showcases the beauty of nature and also its ferocity.

In that sense, I also feel that the VFX in LOTR is also amazing and timeless. Different scenes in the different movies mean different things in the trilogy.

'Lord of the Rings' is a beautiful film, no doubt about that. Miniatures are to die for as they look quite amazing in the movies.

I was really referring to computer-generated characters like Gollum. Even though he look great but it didn't make the same impact as the T-Rex did on the screen.

King Kong was the same. While it was quite an achievement, but he still didn't look real to me.

The SFX were shot in 65mm and the 70mm prints had them printed directly from the large format elements instead of the 35mm reduction elements intercut with the 35mm live action.

Interesting. I did not get a chance to see this theatrically. I would think that 70mm prints would show differences between the SFX scenes and 35mm live action scenes.
