Cool What Were Your Goals When You Started Going Blu?

Hey,

What were your goals when you starting buying Blus? Have they changed, remained the same, or gone insane?!?!

Ours was to get some fun Blus and a few PS3 Games. It shifted to buying little to no more DVD's, and starting to convert owned DVD's to Blus.

Now...I am just trying to get a broad range of Blus to suit my varied viewing interests -- don't want just Action, but anything to suit my mood.

How 'bout you?

Never have had goals relating to buying movies. If I want a movie, I'll buy it on Blu-ray. I have tried to be more selective than when buying DVDs, since I ended up with around 800 of those.

I don't have a goal either really, although I do know someday I will have over 2000 of the suckers.

The only "goal" (though I never really thought about it in those terms) I ever had regarding blu ray was that unlike DVD, I would not buy everything that came along that remotely interested me. I spent a small fortune on my DVD collection and I was not about to spend as much or more on blu ray. Right now I have a very modest collection and it's only the movies that I really thought were worth owning. There are still many movies that I want on blu that have yet to come out though.

Pretty much this, with my DVD's I bought alot of them first day and so far with BD my average price is less than $20. I've limited my comedies to Zack and Miri and haven't double dipped on ALL my DVD's or anything, mainly when it's convenient (randomly bought The Departed for $15 yesterday, had a free copy of the DVD).

I only wanted the must haves, and so far I have pretty much stuck to that. I usually rent more blu's than I buy.

My goal was to only grab the Blus that had amazing PQ/AQ and that I would get every other movie on DVD. Now I've decided to gradually switch over to Blu as my DVD collection isn't that big anyway, I might as well just build my Blu collection. I generally wait for Blus to fall into the $10-15 range. I never buy Blus when they are around $20.

I started out buying alot of blu's but since have tapered off. Now, I stick with all time favorites in action, scifi etc...

I typically have 2 classes of movies, class A and B. Class A (movies that I throughly enjoy - all time favorites for me) and Class B (good movies, but not my favorite). I try to get class A movies in blu and B in DVD used at the rental store for $3. This helps out the budget so I don't go overboard on blu-ray purchases. Will I upgrade my old dvd's? I may at some point, but I'm in no hurry to (except for my top films), so films like Lars and the Real Girl, Dodgeball, Old School, and many others will still do me just fine on DVD.

Fortunately, I never had a large DVD collection (somewhere around 80 titles). While I don't have the best equipment, from what I've seen and from what I've read, Blu-ray seems to be the best quality we're going to get at home. At least without a huge investment.

With that said, my goal is to amass a large collection of BD's, with no intention of upgrading to anything better should it be released. I'm only human though, so we'll see if I can hold out.

The only comedy I own on blu ray is Blazzing Saddles! Well worth the investment in my opinion because the blu ray picture is beautiful for such an old movie! I am also anxiously awaiting Monty Python and the Holy Grail on blu.

My goal was to not let it spiral out of control like my DVD collection did and only buy movies I would watch more than a few times. Aside from the free Blu's I got, I've held to it pretty well.

My initial goal was to buy 1,000 of them and try to pole vault over them all stacked on their side. That's a realistic goal since I don't know how to pole vault. 2 years later I'm only at 120 discs, but I can easily hurdle those on foot.

Never really had a goal. I just remember seeing some Blu-ray movies being displayed and thinking WOW...that's pretty nice. So I figured since the PS3 I bought could do both DVD and BD, it would be a good way to enjoy both formats. That's really all there is to it.

Now, of course, 90% of my purchases are BD....I still buy the occasional DVD.
