the sony str-dg820 & ps3 problem - Blu-ray Forum

I just bought the above mentioned reciever & have had a PS3 for a while, I bought HDMI cables, so i'm ready to connect it all together. but the problem is

i have my PS3 connected to the reciever throught HDMI, then i have the reciever connected to the Tv by HDMI/DVI cable, I go the "audio settings" in the ps3 I have tried both manual and automatic, when i click auto it says "this HDMI device cannot be used for audio output". but when i turn the TV off i get sound but once i turn it on the sound stops...HELP ME PLEASE!!!

I don't think dvi supports sound....

There should be an option to pass the audio through the receiver to the TV as well, you need to turn it off... cannot remember how though, check the 820's manual. This might help.

Just found my manual...

From the "HDMI" section in the receivers menu set the "Audio Out" to "AMP" (not TV+AMP).

the only options i have are: audio out & tv+amp

A frend of mine had a similar problem the only way he made it work was to use a optical or coaxial cable...

Maybe something link this will work, instead of using a HDMI/DVI cable, use a HDMI cable with one of these.

i have the same combination and i had the same problem you did, but only because i was using my HD DVD player on HDMI 1 and wanted the receiver on my DVI input of the TV.... so decided not to go that way and just used a straight HDMI cable to the TV

the problem is not your TV or receiver. DVI only carries video and NOT audio... because of HDCP issues, the TV and receiver arent not fully connected which is why you dont get any audio via your speakers.

by changin the settings on the receiver to AMP only instead of TV+AMP, will fix it

any reason you HAVE TO use DVI-HDMI connection? HDTV old?
