HDMI Switcher vs. HDMI Repeater - Blu-ray Forum

What does each mean? Which is better?

Also...is HDMI Pass-Through the same as "HDMI Repeater" or is that a completely different thing as well?

Instead of reading through that whole thread and linking to a different forum...

HDMI switching and repeating are basically the same. HDMI switching will decode audio, contrary to what the post in that other thread says. So when shopping for a receiver, make sure it says "repeater" or "switching" so you can get audio through HDMI. Passthrough won't give you audio through HDMI, but if you have a player with analog outputs, you should still be able to get lossless codecs as long as the receiver has analog inputs.

Good explanation. I was surprised we don't have a sticky on this site somewhere explaining the difference.
