How do I update my parents Samsung blu-ray player?
I know they have a download on the site but i got confused so could someone make it comprehensible, intelligible, coherent, clear, explicit, unambiguous, transparent, plain, straightforward, digestible, accessible, user-friendly. anyone of those would be fine. ![]() Korray |

You should be able to download the update from the Samsung website onto a USB flash drive... Check with the website your downloading the file from and it will tell you the format for the drive as well as which folder to place it in...
EDIT: Well after checking their website you can't use a USB drive... You have to burn the file to a CD... That's stupid... Anyway here's a link for the update with instructions... Last edited by Ashamed Pegasus; 07-26-2009 at 09:07 PM. |

Ok. I just looked at the samsung site and the instructions seem pretty straight forward. Which step are you getting confused on ... I'm guessing it's the burning the image part? Which software program will you be using to burn the image? MAC or PC?

going to take a shot here and guess...maybe ur flash drive is formatted for mac...click it and get info....if the flash drive is NOT FAT32, go to disc utility (beware...it will erase ALL on the drive) and formated it for PC (FAT32)...then copy the update...the Samsung should now see it.....

Should have known and I'm glad I asked. Samsung's firmware download is in the .zip format which a lot of Mac users seem to have problems extracting the file although Apple included built-in .zip support in Mac OS X 10.3 and later.
I've downloaded the firmware and extracted the .iso file from the .zip file for you. I've uploaded the .iso file which can be found via the following link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U2YZ18PC Then try burning this .iso to disc by the Mac OS X disc utility. Instructions can be found here: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.p...60619181010389 EDIT: Here is a visual tutorial for OS X Disc Utility, Toast, and Dragon Burn: http://www.mrbass.org/mac/dvdburn/ Last edited by rdodolak; 07-26-2009 at 10:26 PM. |

hmm...I have never had ANY problem with ANY zip files...but what the heck..if it helps this person...great....I'm betting it's his flash drive thats in the wrong format....MANY dvd/bluray players with USB do not see Mac formated drives..need to format them into a windows compatible format (fat32)..

Since the file is the standard .iso file format it shouldn't matter. The disc data structure would be taken from the file.

nope....same as inserting a mac disc in a pc...pc will just ask to either format it...or spit it out....won't recognise it (a great plus with owning macs...they see just about anything u put in...lol)

An .iso file follows the ISO9660 standard and therefore if the standard is followed it shouldn't matter which system is used to burn the file. It would be a different issue if you were trying to create an .iso file from scratch. The .iso file contains an exact image of the firmware update CD Samsung created for its player. You could format the CD prior to burning the image, but when you burn the image all of that will be erased/over written by the specifications contained in the .iso file. |
