Default How do I update?

How do I update my parents Samsung blu-ray player?
I know they have a download on the site but i got confused so could someone make it comprehensible, intelligible, coherent, clear, explicit, unambiguous, transparent, plain, straightforward, digestible, accessible, user-friendly. anyone of those would be fine.

You should be able to download the update from the Samsung website onto a USB flash drive... Check with the website your downloading the file from and it will tell you the format for the drive as well as which folder to place it in...

EDIT: Well after checking their website you can't use a USB drive... You have to burn the file to a CD... That's stupid... Anyway here's a link for the update with instructions...

Ok. I just looked at the samsung site and the instructions seem pretty straight forward. Which step are you getting confused on ... I'm guessing it's the burning the image part? Which software program will you be using to burn the image? MAC or PC?

going to take a shot here and guess...maybe ur flash drive is formatted for mac...click it and get info....if the flash drive is NOT FAT32, go to disc utility (beware...it will erase ALL on the drive) and formated it for PC (FAT32)...then copy the update...the Samsung should now see it.....

I've downloaded the firmware and extracted the .iso file from the .zip file for you. I've uploaded the .iso file which can be found via the following link:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=U2YZ18PC

Then try burning this .iso to disc by the Mac OS X disc utility. Instructions can be found here:

EDIT: Here is a visual tutorial for OS X Disc Utility, Toast, and Dragon Burn:

The BDP1400 doesn't support a firmware update via a flash drive.

hmm...I have never had ANY problem with ANY zip files...but what the heck..if it helps this person...great....I'm betting it's his flash drive thats in the wrong format....MANY dvd/bluray players with USB do not see Mac formated drives..need to format them into a windows compatible format (fat32)..

Since the file is the standard .iso file format it shouldn't matter. The disc data structure would be taken from the file.

I understand that Mac and PC have different formats, but were not going to use this CD in a Mac or PC after it's been burned. All the information about the CD data structure and format are contained in the .iso file.

An .iso file follows the ISO9660 standard and therefore if the standard is followed it shouldn't matter which system is used to burn the file. It would be a different issue if you were trying to create an .iso file from scratch.

The .iso file contains an exact image of the firmware update CD Samsung created for its player. You could format the CD prior to burning the image, but when you burn the image all of that will be erased/over written by the specifications contained in the .iso file.

Which player do you have? If it's the NB501SL9 or NB500SL9 you can find the firmware here:

http://www.sylvaniaconsumerelectroni...tes/index.html

There is no firmware updaye for the newer NB530SLX as of yet.

You can find the Funai BD Player thread here:

I'm all aware of that...but again..I do not know why, but if you burn through the Macs Disc utitlity (standard burning app)....it will work ONLY in a Mac but using TOAST does the job....
