I'm looking forward to seeing it.
God, I wish Deighton would either clear Game, Set and Match on Blu-ray, or even DVD. Or die so his estate can release it... What a douche. Sir Ian Holm is the lead but Deighton didn't like it, so it has been suppressed since the xxxxing 80s. I really hate that mofo for this. I have been waiting to see it for nearly 30 years. I wish he'd leave this plane of existence... I'm not exaggerating here. I discovered the books in about 87 after the series aired, and have been waiting since to see the BBC series.

He needs to die. I read an interview with him must be at least 5 years ago now in the Daily Telegraph weekend magazine where he said he would never authorise a release either for TV or disk for Game, Set & Match as he hated it so much.

I am sure his relatives would be much more open to the cash future sales generate once he is dead.

BTW it was made by Granada part of ITV and not the BBC.

It did get a VHS release at least, in some countries globally. I think these only exist as they were released straight after the originally TV broadcasts. They were pulled from sale very quickly as in some way Deighton bought back / reclaimed the rights from Granada within a year of its TV broadcast, so he could bury it. The bootleg disks you can find online have been sourced from those VHS.

I'd like Game, Set And Match but how much of the books is missing makes it unsatisfying. As Le Carre is being filmed again without uproar from those who liked the TV series it would be good to see a really ambitious adaptation of all nine books and a team up with German TV to make a lavish version of Winter.

I suppose it is obvious given I had read the book many years ago that the lead needs to be fluent in both English and German. Did not realise until I read an interview with him that Sam Riley is fluent in both as has lived in Germany for years. His wife is a very well known actress over there.

So I presume the BD will have enforced English captions for the spoken German.
Am recording off TV this weekend so will be able to see from the broadcast version.

Gave up halfway through the first episode.

It may pick up, but I was falling asleep!
