Angry HMV buy one get one free

Ok, so I was in hmv this morning....to be honest i hardly ever buy blu ray from there as their markup is way too high, but i saw they were offering buy one get one free. When I check the prices, I noticed that the titles they were offering were either already at or had been placed at £30. the only title i could find at a reasonable rate was pitch black at £15. Really, whats the point...? surely, people cant be that stupid? ok, they can, but theyre in the minority. this sort of thing hardly drives blu ray sales....

I'm glad I'm not the only one that was annoyed at that little stunt. As an aside, but staying with HMV, I managed to bag the steelbook T2 for £17.99. Which, oddly, was right next to the standard case for...wait for it...£24.99! In another store I noticed that the prices were reversed.

I'm also pretty sure that some of the 2 for 1s marked as £30 were previously being flogged at £15 earlier in the month...

The reason HMV sells them so expensively is because their suppliers sell them expensively. Yes, it's a rip-off, but for the few people who don't use online shopping (and I met a few working there), it's the only source of the format.

I guess. Woolworths is bust, and loads of Zavvis have been bought out. With very little high street competition, and the fact that the stores aren't in tax free locations (like many online stores with warehouses on the channel islands), prices will remain high until the suppliers have a reason to lower them.

Having said that, many blu-rays are going down in price at HMV. I know loads are still over-priced, but last I was in there I was surprised to see some knocking between £11-15 (I think).

Im not in the UK, but I gotta say that here in Canada, HMV actually has some really good prices... they always a lot of titles at 2 for 30, 2 for 40, 2 for 50 and 2 for 60. Lots of good titles can be had at the 2 for 40/50

One cool thing that HMV are doing soon (according to Empire magazine) is releasing 10 Optimum titles with limited edition covers. The ones for Elephant, Brick and This is England look a lot better than the originals and they will be £10 each.

I did the same with Sweeney Todd a while back, it was £10 and the reg. was £21, non issue right there lol.

That's a shame - I've worked in a store where the set-up has been really good, and loads of people stand in awe of beautiful HD :P

you would think that the sainsburys, morrisons and tescos of this world would see an opportunity to grab sales but they are more expensive than hmv (which takes some doing)

thank god for asda.

bBtw the close encounters in hmv is in the 2 for 30 but was strangely £11 before the sale. thieving sods they are.

i noticed this also. Cars was in the offer for £35 which is way too much money, i then ordered it with monsters inc both of them were only £11.99. I know there are less overheads with online business, but still, thats awful. But that is business, if they are doing buy one get one free they will double the price and people will think they are getting a good deal because of the "free" part.

Since seeing prices like this im not going to spend any more money on blus in the store, i recently bought Incubus : Alive at red rocks for £17.99, only to see its £11.99 on the online store. Only buy instore if you know its a good price, for example young guns is only £10 in hmv and a friend bought jumper for £8 which is cheap, just be a bit tight and shop around, do this online also.

I know this is unrelated, but does anyone have any idea which version this is? http://hmv.com/hmvweb/displayProduct...;-1&sku=976513 It's left me stuttering at which version it could be. Anyone lend a hand?
