Hi guys,
I had the BD-P1000 and I resell this unit only to get the new BD-P1200. This player was interesting to me for the HDMI 1.3 connection that I wanted hooked up in a very near future to a compatible AV receiver. Knowing that out of the box the BD-P1200 didn't support those HD sound formats, I figured that it meant that there wasn't any on-board truehd/dts hd decoder. I never figured that this unit , according to few forums, didn't even convey the signal through hdmi 1.3. So I decided to post a request on the samsung website and they replied by sending me a link to the latest firmware without any other explanation. Does anyone of you knows whether this latest firmware really does the trick with the lossless audio signal ? Has anyone already coupled this player with a next gen hdmi 1.3 compatible AV receiver ? Any info would be a bliss. |

BDP-1200 only only decodes Dolby Digital (Dolby Digital +) and DTS. And then allows Uncompressed LPCM 5.1 via HDMI/Analog 5.1 outputs .It is said that this player should be allowed to stream the lossless codecs to a receiver that can decode it, but that function is currently not active on the HDMI 1.3 output.
From what I read, The chipset in the BDP-1200 apparently is unable to decode lossless audio <---This is just what I've read and not 100%. *You will be able to hear standard Dolby digital if the TrueHD track is selected on a movie. *You will be able to hear standard DTS if a DTS-HD or DTS-HD master audio track is selected on a movie. I went deeper in my investigation for the BD-P1200 and still I'm not too reassured. Actually, I couldn't wait for the samsung support service to answer me days later so I decided to call them to ask them about the lossless audio signal and tha ability to convey the signal to a compatible receiver that would decode it.
I repeated several time 'truehd and dts hd' to make sure the samsung representative got right what I was asking. I think he understood and though he's certainly not an engineer, he confirmed me three times that those HD audio signal would pass through HDMI with the latest firmware. Even though, I'm still confused and I can't help thinking that this guy might have all the existing audio formats mixed up in his head. Anyway, I upgraded my player right out of the box. Of course one problem leading to another, now i did notice a slight problem irritating though with the 1080i. Indeed, it would seem that when the pictures displayed are bright and in quick motion on the screen, the interlacing doesn't quite follow suit and some gross lines are being displayed for a very brief moment (millisecond) . But it is enough for your eye to catch them. It's is most noticeable on the 'ghost rider' blu-ray when johnny reaches by bus the texas state and looked through the window wandering whether it's the devil or the angels that are looking after him. Right at this moment, the devil's son shows up in the middle of the desert in a rain of fire and lightnings. At this very moment, the passing from deep dark to very bright lets appear all the thick lines above mentioned and some slight distortions. I had to change the setting from hdmi 1080i to 720P to get rid of this problem. FYI, I running this player with a HITACHI LCD PJTX200 front projector (HD ready). I had the BD-P1000 before and the best setting with that one was the 1080i. I'm so lost. Those standalone blu-ray players are just as glitchy as a damn computer would be. So reluctantly I reverted to 720p to make my viewing experience still pleasurable. Moreover, I got a major problem with the movie 'primeval' that doesn't play correctly freezing up all the time. I plan in a very near future to upgrade my display to a 1080P but I can't stop thinking that nothing will ever work the way I want. ![]() I appreciate you replying to my posts and just hope there some guy out there who finally experienced a lossless signal decoding with the BD-P1200 hooked up to a next gen hdmi 1.3 compatible AV receiver. Please feel free to even send me emails to my personal address if you wish. P.S: Is ther anyone who would have the personal email of a guy working at the samsung support service ? Having a direct interlocutor there might give us a better chance to get tech answers quickly. Bye. ![]() |
