Default Hard drive sweepers

I'm giving away my old Dell tower that I haven't used in the past 5 years, but I still have a lot of data in it. I was wondering if anyone can recommend a software I can either buy or download for free that will completely sweep my hard drive.

If you have the original operating system install disc(s), you can initiate an install on the drive and do a full format. That should be plenty. If you're a little more savvy and don't want to get into that, you can connect the hard drive to your existing computer (as a slave or non-primary drive) and format through the Windows GUI. It's pretty easy to do.

Hard Drive sweepers aren't necessary at all (in this situation), unless you work for the FBI!

What's the OS?

You could also download a win98 startup disk that'll also let you format c:.

If you really want to fry it, get DBAN(Darik's Boot And Nuke):

G-Part...it's Linux based and very easy to use. It will blow everything away for you. Best of all...it's free!

If you have the restore disks like brettallica mentioned, then it would probably be the easiest way to get it back to its original state.
