I got the Energy Take Classic speaker set with a Pioneer VSX 819h setup through my PS3 with HDMI. Everything seems to work fine except for a small crackling noise when voices get a little loud (arguments, raised voices).... I am pretty sure the middle speaker ISNT blown and was wondering if anyone had any remedies to make this better. thanks.

What levels are you turning it up to when it starts to crackle? Make sure the volume on the PS3 is set to the middle ( 0 ), I had distortion issues when I played around and turned it up. |

Double-check all of your connections. Re-attach them if need be and make sure you have solid contact. If you're using bare wire connections make sure that any exposed wire is not touching anything.

Before you spend money on a new speaker, check the volume level of the PS3, as suggested above. Make sure it's set to 0. Also check the level for the individual speakers in the receiver's setup menu. If the center speaker is at something like +2 you shouldn't have any problems. However, if it's at some ridiculously high number like +10, then that would probably explain the crackling.

It's not the PS3. It's a common problem with the Take Classic speakers. There is a lot of clipping at high volumes. Do what others have suggested and calibrate your speakers. If you don't want to get a SPL meter, first try changing the Hz for your fronts to a higher frequency. My guess is that they're receiver more lows than they can handle and are distorting.
I checked some stats online and it seems your center can only handle frequencies higher than 110Hz. You probably have it set around 80 so you need to turn it up and send those lower frequencies to the sub. Do the same for your fronts and surrounds. |
