Forgive my ignorance and annoyance, but I really just need to know if this system is compatible with a regular blu-ray player. I live in an apartment so I'm not looking for something to destroy my neighbors ears. Just something small and is actually a decent buy.

If this is good, what else would I need though to make sure I get the sound and video I desire. I already have two HDMI cables that are 1.3.

Thank you to anyone who can help me and again, I apologize for coming here and posting a thread like this when I am sure there are answers elsewhere. I will make it up to you......somehow.

you can connect an optical cable for audio, thats about it as far as compatibility with Bluray player.

Only has one HDMI out, meaning you cannot connect anything with HDMI. Optical for audio is only option.

Thanks for the input, but can you explain a little more.

Are you saying it will work fine, but that I will only have one HDMI output so that will limit me?

Or should I just forget this and look for a blu-ray receiver/sound system?

Actually, do me a small favor and explain it to me like I'm a child. I'm learning on the go here so anything will help no matter how small or trivial it may seem.

What would I be losing if I bought this and used it with a blu-ray player?

Let me see if I'm getting this. Since there is only one input, I could only hjave one device installed at a time that would be able to use the HDMI video/audio signal, right? So I could just buy how many ever cables I have devices for, tie them together and switch the plug for whatever I am using at the time to get the full effect, right? Is that wrong?

HDMI is capable of carrying both audio and video signal. This is very popular because it helps to save space and clutter, because it only requires one single cable. Im sure you already knew this.

Now, the Bluray player is most optimal when you output via the HDMI connection. You get 1080p video as well as the latest Lossless audio (TrueHD, Dts-HD MA, Uncompressed PCM).

Most people prefer to connect the Bluray player to a receiver because of the Lossless audio. Also you can connect multiple devices to the receiver, and only need one single HDMI cable to connect to the TV. This makes life easy.

But, since the system you are looking at only has an HDMI Output, this means you cannot connect anything with HDMI to it. (it would need an HDMI Input)



Because that system does have an Optical input, you could connect the Bluray player Optical output to it for audio. And just connect the HDMI cable from the player to the TV for video.

At least you will be able to get 5.1 surround sound, but it wont be Lossless.

So my loss would be in the sound department, right? And there is no way around that unless I get another system.

How did you know it only had an "output"? It just says "yes" when asked about HDMI inputs/outputs.

What about the Panasonic sc-pt960? Is that basically the same thing?

EDIT: It seems Panasonic really only has one oputput on each of the receivers.

So in the end, my loss would be with sound. How much of a difference would that be with the speakers I have anyways?
