Default Can You Feel the Surge (Netflix Related)

I have had Apocolypto on my Netflix queue since before it was released. It was one of the movies that I had heard was great, but never saw in theaters because of the whole 'Mel Gibson is a racist alcoholic' thing. I also love Aztec, Mayan, and Inca history.

Anyway, the movie has been sitting at the top of my queue for over 4 weeks now, and I still haven't gotten it. Its been listed a "Long Wait" since it was released and everytime I have a video sent to me I am disappointed to see that Apocolypto won't be on its way to my house.

Second on my queue is Bridge to Terabithia. That movie has been sitting with a "Very Long Wait" since it was released. Now, it was only two weeks ago, but it still should have cooled down a bit by now!

There must be a huge influx of Blu-ray owners out there, because since I joined Netflix, I never had a problem like this. Even if a movie was in "Long Wait" it would only take a few extra days before I would have it in my hands. Now, I've waited over 4 weeks for that movie.

The wait continues as I see Scrubs Season 3 Disc 2 is on its way to my house for Saturday. I love me some Scrubs, but I really wanted Apocolypto.

I've been very frustrated with BR rentals since both BB and NF seem to be way behind on new disc availability. My local BB wasn't one of the 250 test stores and my Hollywood Video doesn't carry either HD format yet. I'm about at the point to start buying and reselling movies on Ebay since it seems impossible to rent them anywhere.

I have just switched from Netflix to Blockbuster Total Access, and Netflix for me was great on shipping BR to me, but my Blockbuster queue to me all it says is long wait to a very long wait, except for some older titles! Probably because I am so new?

I had a hard time renting Apocolypto on BR as well (from my local BB). Every time I went (every couple of days for 2 weeks), I'd ask if a copy was due back soon. After they apologized I would say "it's ok - I went through this with DVDs as well when you guys first started renting them. Hopefully you'll start carrying more copies soon...". *cough* hint *cough*

Default THere is a trick!!

I call this que manipulation.

SO, say a new BD is coming out on tuesday.

1. I will have it at the top of my que.
2. Whatever disc I am returning, I put it in the mail the saturday before. This way netflix receives the disc on monday.
3. Since your next movie won't ship until tuesday, the new tuesday release is eligible to be shipped.

Since I've been doing this, I've yet to be put on a wait for any release. The only issue is that I end up signing into my que a few times a week.

I had this problem with blockbuster. When I E-Mailed them they replied with some generic B.S. message. So I switched to netflix. I put all the same movies in muy que in the same order and every one of them came in the order in my que. It has only been twice that I haven't gotten the Blu-Ray that was at the top of my que with NetFlix. Bot times the next time I sent back the movie I got the one at the top of my que. I am on the 4 at a time rental and average about 4 movies a week mostly blu-ray. Supprises me that other are having problems. Where are the people that are having problems getting there movies from? Mine come from Minneapolis MN.

Well I had Bridge to Terabithia in my que the day before its release and it said very long wait but I then got it in the mail the next day. I have been a member of netflix since April and never had to wait for more than 1-2 days for dvd or blu-ray to arrive.

I do the same thing, expect my wait isn't as long as yours. I put my disc in the mail Monday and they get it on Tuesday morning. They ship me a disc that afternoon that I receive on Wednesday. So, they are shipping me a disc on the day they get the new releases - in the morning even. Still come up short.

I haven't had any problem with Netflix, except for one broken disc that was quickly replaced. Does availability have anything to do with what distribution center you're near? I've never had to wait for a BD any longer than a standard DVD.

As far as Blockbuster goes, I actually switched to Blockbuster for awhile last year, but switched back to NF because there were a LOT of movies with a short or long wait, and their shipping was always a day or two slower than NF. The instore rental and game rentals were nice, but NF was a lot more consistent with their shipping and availability.

Netflix also just sent me an email the other day lowering my rates, so that was good news.

Yeah, I am a netflix member, myself, but I ran through blockbuster's free trial period and netflix to see which I liked better. While it is cool to be able to go to an actual store front occasionally (blockbuster), netflix just offered way way better service. Half of my queue on blockbuster had waits, and there were a bunch of titles they didn't have available at all (I used the same movies on both queues to do a comparison). Netflix has everything I want (well, for the most part... can't do anything about out of print titles) and they manage to get me discs rather quickly. Blockbuster made me wait for many titles, didn't have some titles available at all, and honestly their stores only seem to have what I am looking for about 50% of the time to begin with. I have not done any HD renting through either, though, so I can't speak for them specifically. If they are any reflection of the general business of both companies, I would say netflix is probably going to offer better service.

They usually send out movies releasing on tuesday monday. So, that could be the problem. If they receive your movie on tuesday, they probably sent out all their copies on monday. Usually if I get the movie there by monday I don't have a problem. They have been better lately with most movies though.
