owner of a sony bdp-s300. - Blu-ray Forum

Hello there.I am a new member of this forum and have had a hi-def player and tv for 2 years now.I am slowly building a bd collection and recently have discovered that the first bd I've bought doesn't work anymore(can't play disc).Casino Royale (not the collector's edition but the first version) worked perfectly before firmware update 4.5 and was one of the best pictures of the 24 films on bd that I own.I installed the new 4.9 firmware and not noticing any difference(yet!) casino royale still can't play.Now I was going to buy a new player anyway as I have a 7.1 system and since the s300 does not decode dts hd master audio,I intend to buy a player that does.Does anyone here have the same problem-"can't play disc" and is there a solution please?

Unfortunatly I have the same machine, hoping it breaks soon so I have a good reason to get a new one. Anyway, I get that error occasionally, I just resart the player and it clears.

Grab a S350 or S360, Excellent players

Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Sony BDP-S360 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

The Higher end version of the players are 550 and 560, The 560 hasbuilt in wifi for firmware updates

Sony BDP-S550 1080p Blu-ray Player

Sony BDP-S560 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player

Based on the closeness of price, I would get the newer model, the 360 or 560

thank you for your reply people.In reality I am thinking of getting a new player as I explained.I just needed to ask someone with the same setup about the prob.I was thinking of onboard decoding of dts hd master audio. As you probably know,most of the 7.1 ch films are in dts hd ma format and my maranz amp can handle 7.1 sound, only it has to be decoded on board the bd player.As much as I love sony,I must admit that this unreliable episode so to speak,has made me loose faith in the company, considering that this is an old film and I was thinking after a couple of more updates I might not be able to watch half of my movies!So I was considering a panasonic or samsung.I just hope the picture is as great as they say!

Get the 4.90 update. It may fix your play issue. Sometimes new firmware breaks something but later firmware fixes it.
