What are some of your pet peeves when it comes to blu-rays?
Mine would be the English subtitles being called For Hearing Impaired, etc Just because I'm putting subs on IT DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE EAR PROBLEMS. STOP PUTTING THAT. ALL THESE STUPID STUDIOS ASSUME THAT. |

![]() Quote:
SDH subtitles contain important non-dialog information (heavy breathing, eerie silence, singing in background, etc.) that regular English subtitles do not. You may even notice that some releases have both English SDH and English subtitles, the latter of which only transcribes the primary dialog. In many cases, studios only include the English SDH track for those wanting English subtitles, as it contains all the transcribed dialog that would be included in non-SDH English subs anyways. However, they still designate it as SDH (both on the packaging and in menus) because it contains more information than standard English subtitles would and their inclusion (or exclusion) may affect the purchasing decisions of the hearing-impaired. |

![]() I wish everything was in a matte steelbook with original poster art on the front and the film credits on the back (like the a lot of the Warner ones). But peeves? EVERYTHING. -poor video master used -poor encode/compression -low bitrate original soundtrack mix -missing original soundtrack mix followed by... -cheap cases -ugly artwork -missing extras (sometimes) A perfect release could include a lossless mono track and no other audio option. ![]() Last edited by Brian81; 05-31-2015 at 02:31 AM. |

Packaging is my biggest one. For Blu-rays AND DVDs. I hate hate hate when they use the thicker cases when they don't need to. Disney is a big offender of that. Like Princess and the Frog. Only three discs, no need to put them in a thick case. Or the That '70s Show releases. I mean I guess it's fine if you don't have a huge collection of movies, but I do and it sucks lol.
Stacking / overlapping discs. This doesn't really bother me when it's a movie and only the DVD copy is covered by a Blu-ray disc but with TV shows it's a pain. The only real offender for this that I know of is The Office... I can't *stand* the packaging for those (especially season 6). There's no need to have these clunky fold-out cases with a cardboard sleeve and overlapping discs, when you can just take a slim 4-disc regular case and throw them in there. It saves space AND frustration. |

The fact that you can't stop the movie and start it back up like you could on DVDs is my only pet peeve. I know some movies have a resume function, but that should be on all the discs.

I don't like when movies ship without the slipcover. It really irritates me. And also, when a movie comes with Ultraviolet ONLY, instead of giving the user options on where to redeem. I also hate when the clips break and you can't close the case anymore, same for the retention hubs holding the disc in place. I also hate when the rentention hub is so tight that it feels like I'm going to break the disc just to remove it. I also hate when discs overlap. I also hate when there are store exclusives, rather than having the same release at all stores. I also hate when the picture quality is crap. And I hate when people type "BR" instead of "BD." And I also hate threads like this one. But most of all, I hate when I go to someone's house and they have their Blu-ray Disc Player hooked up with composite cables and then they say "see, it's not any better than DVD."

Although it isn't too bad on newer releases, having to see a commercial for how much better blu ray is over dvd is super annoying. I have the blu. I am watching the blu. I know how much better it is. Put those ads on the DVDs.

The pause button is your friend. It was 2009 before I broke the VHS and DVD habit of hitting stop, but once I did I was set.

![]() ![]() When I read the purple banner on the right, I read it in the style of Gary Oldman in Leon: The Professional. I guess it just makes angry. ![]() ![]() Without a shadow of a doubt, it has to be the - WATCH IT ANYWHERE! - banner that's being plastered over most of the current UK Blu-ray releases. I pray this trend doesn't reach you anytime soon... my North American friends. |
