Default Help with Pioneer VSX-819H Receiver

I just got this receiver and its working great. I connected everything, the BD Player a Sony BDP-S350 is connected thru HDMI, and it sounds great my question is when I put a BD Disc with TRUEHD Audio, the TRUEHD indicator doesn't appear in the display. I can notice the difference between dolby and TrueHD when I change it on the BD Disc menu, but still it doesn't appear on the receiver's screen. Since I use HDMI maybe it shouldn't appear or it should appear and I'm not getting TrueHD.

I don't really know what to do any help is welcome.

because the player is doing the decoding. and sending it to the receiver.

when you play a dts-hdma track that should display on the receiver. your player does not decode that

your blu ray player decodes true-hd and sends it decoded to the receiver. so no need for the receiver to do anything but play the audio.

the player however does not decode dts-hdma so when playing a movie like incredible hulk in dts, you will see the receiver decode the audio, and display dts-hdma on front panel...

sort of like a ps3, it decodes everything internal, so the receiver just displays multichannel

Not quite. Your blu-ray player can be set to either PCM (internal decoding) or bitstream (sometimes referred to as "auto," in which the raw audio is sent to the receiver and decoded by the receiver). Since you're not seeing the Dolby TrueHD logo on your receiver, I'm assuming your player is set to PCM, in which case the audio is being decoded by your player and therefore your receiver will only display PCM, not the Dolby TrueHD logo. The problem with this is that your particular blu-ray player does not decode DTS-HD Master Audio (DTS-MA), therefore when your player is set to PCM, your receiver is only receiving standard DTS signals converted to PCM (PCM will still appear on your receiver, not the DTS logo).

If you want DTS-MA, you will need to set your player to bitstream (or, like I said, sometimes referred to as "auto"). When you do this you will then see the Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio logos on your receiver. There is another catch, however; if you want to hear the audio from PiP commentaries you will need to set the player back to PCM as most receivers cannot decode the PiP secondary audio tracks (I know for a fact that the Pio 819 does NOT because I have the same receiver).

(Another side note, there is no real audible difference when playing back a Dolby TrueHD track with your player being set to PCM or bitstream. I would just recommend bitstream because your player is unable to decode DTS-MA. If your player was able to decode DTS-MA, there would be no real difference between PCM and bitstream, but since it can't decode DTS-MA just stick with bitstream and switch back to PCM if you want to hear PiP secondary audio).
