Bad news.

None most likly...

The test market stores are traditional high volume stores and have good margins to begin with.

I think On Demand has killed movie rentals. I know I haven't rented a movie in years.

I haven't rented a movie since the switch to DVD, I won't put dirty, scratched up discs in my players.

Too bad for blockbuster. I actually started using Netflix a few months back because they have Blu Ray and Blockbuster didn't. I suspect i will start renting from them next month though

This is a surprise-look how much they charge to rent 1 movie. Most people i know just go out and buy the movie instead of paying $5 per rental.

With netflix or any other online co. you can have unlimited rentals for $10--that's what i do.

lots of things have lead to this i do like the total access I think its better than netflix if you use the return to the store free movie. With that I can have a movie everyday of the week, via the online 2-3(rentals) that come in the mail, and the 2-3 you get free for taking them to the store. I dont usually rent blu-rays except the ones I dont feel are worth it, but at my local one and others they allow me to use BLU-RAY disks as my free rental, I think 5-6 movies a week is way better than anything netflix could do probly most you could get outta netflix is 3-4 a week maybe less.

The problem is that blockbuster is betting on people not wanting to drive out to the stores and therefore making use of the online ordering so regular customers can use the stores. I tried Blockbuster before-the deliver movies mostly in the same amount of time but then it took them a week and a half before they shipped any movies after they were returned-their only excuse was a computer malfunction-even after i contacted them numerous times-personally i don't think that was the problem but I cancelled my acct and went back to netflix after that-I just don't have the time to run to the movie store to return an envelope-it may take 2 days more but it really depends on whats important to you

The other thing that most of you probably don't know is that blockbuster requests edited versions of many of the movies that they stock from the studios so your not getting what the director wanted you to see. They claim that its so they are more family friendly which personally just pisses me off but my guess is that it does have something to do with them being a mormon company.

Netflix is the best bet to find movies. There prompt have good service, and have lots of more interesting less summer blockbusteresque movies.

Default Total Access is The King!

I did the Blockbuster Total Access for about 6 and 7 months now and love it. I chose the 2 movie out option for like $15 dollars a months. I always take my online movie back to the store and get a new movie from the store and wait for them to mail me a new one. I figure it will take me about the same amount of time running to Blockbuster vs. running to the post office. Right now I have 4 movies in my possession and after I watch 2 movies tonight I will go to the store and get one or two more depending on which movie I watch. Checking my account online, in June alone they have mailed me 6 movies so far plus I have 6 from the store, that is total of 12 movies for $15 or $1.25 per movie. Compare this to what I used to pay $30 to $50 a month to rent movies, I think I am way ahead. I know a few of my friend has went back to BB from Netflix. Except for a couple times I have not experience much mailing delay. I have more movies than I can watch. By the way my entire queue on Blockbuster online was all Blu-Ray movies. GO BLU!

I don't know how much longer bbv is going to be doing online because in all the public statements they seem to be losing lots and lots of money-plus the fact that they are closing close to 300 stores also says something-no one wants to pay $5 a movie. Whether they keep the online going or not if they continue to close stores you will have to drive farther to switch out a movie.

I don't have to drive to the post office though as stated in a previous post by someone i just walk outside my house and put it in my mailbox-couldn't be any easier than that.

The good thing is that you have the 2 competing online companies so hopefully that will keep the monthly costs down-thats probably why they have mostly stayed down over the years.

$5? they've been doing $3 rentals for a while. plus with total access you get the unlimited online rentals and instore trade ins, plus game rentals. very cool if you ask me. especially with their stepping up blu ray instore.

as for on demand, i'd rather have my ps3 upconvert the dvd than order on demand. i dig blockbuster, there's one 2 blocks from my house. if a movie i want is even on "a short wait" i can walk over and usually get a copy.

all this is of course if they don't close the one by me.

I don't know what blockbuster you go to-but all the ones in Orlando after taxes are almost $5

also
wikipedia

Overall, Blockbuster has lost significant amounts of money in recent years: $1.6 billion in 2002, almost $1.0 billion in 2003, and $1.2 billion in 2004.

As of February 2006, the company had a market value of under $500 million.

It also talks about how it is stocking over 1400 stores w/blu-ray as we knew about earlier and it was keeping the 250 that had hd-dvd.

agreed. I like the fact that I can get in the store and browse around, look at the movies and see what's new. Browsing on-line just doesn't do it for me both with Blockbuster and Netflix. I really dig their new policy with the trade-in movies on your on-line rental plus 1 free game/movie rental per month. Gives me a chance to rent PS3 games.

I dont really care about the "unrated" versions most of those movies I'd buy anyways and when you watch the bad santa on hbo then on the unrated version via dvd ... only thing you lose is a few ...Fwords thats it 99.999999% of the "unrated" versions dont add anything to the movie
