Talking Milo Ventimiglia Presents "Rest"

This has an interesting premise, and sounds like something I'd definitely be willing to check out. When I did watch Heroes, Milo was one of the very few I did actually like. He's a decent actor given the right material.

Quote:
Since NBC’s superpowered drama Heroes was given the axe, series star Milo Ventimiglia may have found a new project to keep the network in the comic book inspired arena. Deadline reports Ventimiglia will both star in and executive produce a potential series adaptation of Rest, a comic book co-created by the actor along with Russ Cundiff and Mark Powers. Writer Philip Levens (Smallville) will adapt the comic which follows John Barrett, a guy in his late 20’s stuck in a dead-end job with no future. But when his best friend from college mysteriously resurfaces with news of a new wonder drug that replaces sleep, John falls into a conspiracy that threatens to change the course of human history.

Sounds like a decent high concept show, and as long as it ends up being better than NBC’s new shows from this current season, then we’re good to go. For now the series has a script commitment with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (the team behind the Footloose and Hairspray musical film adaptations), but if all goes well, maybe we’ll end up seeing the series hit the air for the 2011-2012 season next fall. Personally, I’m excited to see Ventimiglia, an actor who seems to have some decent acting chops, take on a character with much more substance and range then his Heroes alter ego Peter Petrelli. We’ll keep you posted as the potential series makes its way through development at NBC.

Well it definitely helps when you create your own vehicles. Don't like what's being offered? Create your own properties. He's got the right idea and at least has the fortitude to go through with it.

Yeah only problem it sounds like the next Lost kinda with a great big mythology and stuff based on the description and we know how those have gone so far. But yeah better to make your own story/idea then wait for something to happen.

Not everything with a mythology is Lost. I'd hope not anyways, because that show became so convoluted and hard to follow I couldn't go through that again, lol. I don't think they are even implying something like that, it sounds more like it's based on science, not religion which already sets it apart from Lost. But it is still so early on, we can't really speculate without a huge debate in which nobody will know any facts until the comic hits stands anyways.

I just meant with the whole conspiracy that could change the world that it seems like it would have a deep mythology. But yeah I didn't mean it would be like Lost but it seems any show today with a mythology is always talked about as the next Lost.

Well to me based on the very brief summary it sounds like the conspiracy is based on manipulating the work force, with this new super drug. My only concern is of how much this sounds like a book I read several years ago called "The Dark Fields" which last I heard was being adapted to film starring Bradley Cooper of The Hangover. The premise sounds very similar.
Quote:
An intellectual slacker and former cocaine addict, now eking out a living as a copywriter for a small publishing house. Through a bizarre series of coincidences, Eddie finds himself in possession of MTD-48, a drug that has some curious effects. On his first trip, Eddie discovers that the drug boosts the intellect, making him far smarter - but also faster, more intuitive, and more charismatic. By warding off sleep and focusing his attention span, Eddie finds that the drug enables him, in a matter of hours, to write a book, learn a foreign language, or predict certain events by detecting patterns in vast amounts of information. What author Glynn has imagined is the perfect drug for the information age, one that makes its user a match for the ceaseless flow of data from television and newspapers to the Internet. Rather than being lost in the overload of endless news, history, opinions, and other information.

OK yeah that does sound similar. TV show sounds better for this type of story though I think unless there were more books in the series.

I only ever read the one book, but I don't believe it was a series anyways. Who knows Rest could end up being a tremendously different project than the Dark Fields, just at this point without more info they sound very similar.

Yeah they sound similar but by the time it airs or get's greenlit things could change drastically. Not really sure why but I think this show would do good next to House. Could just be the pill's picture that gave me the idea.

This makes me think of House, lol.

BTW, Milo is signing copies of the comic next week at Borders in Torrance, CA so I guess we won't have to wait long for more details?

I thought he would be the breakout star of Heroes since Peter was basically the central character (however poorly written the character was), but Armored, Pathology and Gamer weren't exactly jumping points.

That's cool I bet we will be getting more info then. So if the show doesn't work out we still get the comic. Not really a comic fan though. Found the House pic that reminded me of it.

I am actually more intrigued by Milo's other comic which apparently came out early last year.

Quote:
A brutal new series produced by Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia and DiVide Pictures! The lives of Aaron and Farris, two young and completely different men, are turned upside down when they discover an animalistic and uncontrollable rage living inside them.

Meanwhile, two mysterious organizations seek them out for their newfound strength and power for their own purposes. But what good is strength and power when you can't tell friend from foe? From Friday Night Lights screenwriter Rick Loverd and artist Jeremy Haun (Chuck, Leading Man) comes a raw, bloody series in the spirit of Wanted!

Wow never knew he had a comic series already going. Seems pretty busy with 2 comic series and a possible TV series in the making. Here I thought he didn't do much after Gilmore Girls besides heroes.

He's made some horrible movies as well which where previously mentioned. The only decent thing I've seen him in though was Rocky um....13? Whatever the most recent Rocky movie was, where he played Rocky's kid.

Cool I did remember reading he was really good in a Rocky movie. Hopefully this pans out and has a good life ahead of it.

I wouldn't mind a cable adaptation of Berserker's either based on what I've seen and read of it over the past 20 minutes. It sounds awesome, and I've never been a comic fan.

Yeah it does sound interesting and something that would be cool to see on TV. Also never been a fan of comics but some of them have really good stories that would work well for TV/Movies. But yeah Berserker's does sound like a cable show.

Some of my favorite movies and shows have been adapted from comics I've never bothered to read.
