Default DeNiro

I was thinking today. Remember when Robert DeNiro made good movies. Like Midnight Run, The Untouchables, Raging Bull, Heat, etc. Now he does crap like Hide and Seek, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Shark Tale,Righteous Kill, etc.

While I agree that DeNiro has not made a "great" movie in some time, remember he only acts in them. He does not write or direct them, so he should not take all the blame.

Now I realize that he is the one who signs on to act in those bad movies you mentioned, but we all need to get paid too.

DeNiro is one of those few actors around today (Nicholson, Pacino, Streep, Washington, Hanks, etc.) that could rest on the laurels of their previous masterpieces.

I think you need to cut him some slack.

He has done far too good a job of entertaining me over the years for me to hold a few bad movies against him.

DeNiro will always remain a legend no matter what crap he may be in now. His back catalogue is far too good. Casino, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfella's are all mint. Even his ventures into comedy are really good. Sure he made the mistake of starring in a remake (Cape Fear) but then who hasn't? While DeNiro couldn't outplay Mitchum the same can be said for Martins VS Sellers and Martins VS Silvers and the plenty of other actors who star in remakes.

So at the end of the day, much like Pacino and Nicholson, they will go down in history as some of the greatest actors ever, regardless of current "mistakes".

He was great in Meet the Parents and Hide n Seek (not a great movie but good enough and his performance was very good). I think the latest movie I watched was Stardust, but that was a craptastic movie overall so I don't blame him.

One thing is clear he sure as hell doesn't have anything to prove

DeNiro is my favorite actor of all time, and I think a lot of people would agree that he is probabally the best actor of his generation and one of the best of all time. Some of the films that he has starred in recently have not been of the best quality. Although, all of them watchable (to me at least) just strickly because of the fact that he is in them. That is to say that he personally has not been bad in any of the movies he has starred in.

Some of the films too, I think will gain more respect as the years go on. Like Righteous Kill. That just was not as horrible a movie as everyone made it out to be, at the very least due to the high quality acting of the two main stars. If you watch RK just for the sole purpose of critique-ing their acting, they both put in really good performances. Now, I don't think Rocky and Bullwinkle stands a chance of being held in a higher regard, as that was pretty awful, but it is still a treat to see DeNiro in that movie. "Are youuuu talking to meeeee!?" At least you can tell he wasn't taking himself too seriously, but maybe he should have taken himself just a tad more seriously before he agreed to do that movie.

Like a few others said before, either way, his body of work as a whole more than makes up for any mis-steps he might have taken recently in his career.

I'm gonna have to take out Denzel Washington from your list there. While I agree he has had some good roles, even winning an Oscar, you cannot lump him into the same category as those other 4, especially Jack and Meryl.

Oh yea, for some reason Glory totally slipped my mind. Ok, maybe he could be in there, but he is still no Nicholson or Streep
