Why there's no 2008 Olympics in Blu-ray? - Blu-ray Forum

I saw in hd and record, the opening and closing has some amazing camera shot, why hasn't NBC release this on blu-ray? didn't they spend like 1 billion for the U.S. copyright in that olympic.

Have any of the olympics ever been released in a video format? Professional sports leagues I don't think sponsor it either. Mainly just companies.

I am not sure about if it has ever been released to video or not, but the HDNET channel on Direct TV within the last year or so aired the HD broadcasts of prior Olympiads. It was VERY cool to see some of the summer and winter games from teh 50's and 60's in color and in high def.

NBC paid $1B for the rights to air the TV broadcast, but it would not surprise me if the IOC, Host country etc., all have a stake in the rights to the images and rebroadcasting squables may never be worked out.

I'd be more interested in getting the opening ceremony on bluray. That was a thing of beauty. Having Zhang Yimou direct all that was a dream come true. I would love to get the Olympics on bluray though. A lot of historic moments. I'd pay to get all of Michael Phelps's races on bluray. Definitely.
