Default Single Car Garage to HT Room Conversion....

I finally, I hope, finished my HT room. When my wife got pregnant last year, I pretty much knew that the small game/man room I had was going the way of the dinosaur. The room that was filled with electronics would soon be covered with pink walls and winnie the pooh.

I convinced my wife that spending around $6k would be a great way to keep me happy. Luckily, I convinced her well enough. Here is my original vision of the HT....

and here is what I had to work with....

My equipment:
PS3, Xbox 360, my beloved Sega Genesis, Epson Home Cinema 720, Sony STR DG820, Designer White DIY Screen, and a Mr. Slim Ductless Mini Split System.

My first piece of business was to remove the garage door rails, screw the door shut, and put up my false wall with insulation....

Drywall up:

Once I had the wall up, the next step was to get my riser built and cover up the water heater...

Here is a shot of my Projector and my Mr. Slim mini split system. I cant speak highly enough of that Mr. Slim. Its performance blows away my expectations.

I decided to go with carpet tiles to keep on budget and it really turned out well. After a while, the seams that show in the picture faded away and it looks really good. I used brad nails to fold the tiles over the steps and keep them in place.

I ended up removing the equipment from the columns a few months after my initial build. It was just too difficult to get back to the receiver when something needed to be plugged in and I wasnt happy about the ventilation.

Here is the final product:

Replaced the movie posters with sound panels. I love this look much better

My Wilsonart Designer White screen: (Fully lit room)

Some old school gaming fun

So thats my HT room and I'm loving every second of time I get to spend in there. I have had this built for a little under a year now and its really reduced the amount of times my family and I go to the movies. Since getting this built, we've been to the movies twice to see movies I just couldnt wait for. For everything else, nothing beats watching a great summer blockbuster, for the first time, in the privacy of your own home.
