Default Blu-ray release on June 6, 2006?

This was posted at another forum from someone who appears to be a credible source. Until this can be confirmed at CES in January, I'd recommend everyone take this with a grain of salt.

Quote:
"The Sony Blu-ray is expected to debut June 6, 006.

I say.... 006 for all those people familiar with my postings in my regular neighborhood.

Sony originally planned on having a couple models at different price points available to the discerning buyer….. but now it appears there will only be model that should have an MSRP of somewhere around $1300.(this model is much slimmer and compact than prior prototypes you may have seen.)

It will be at CES and they will be announcing titles at CES – which will be available for purchase at the same time the actual machine can be bought.

So, WHAT titles there be, inquiring minds want to know?

Perhaps one of the greatest movies ever made?...........Paul Bigelow and Rob Tomlin hold on to your hats !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why, Lawrence of Arabia, of course! (You two may stop reading now and daydream for the rest of the afternoon )

also.................

Fifth Element
Apocalypse
Ghost Rider
Triple X
Kung Fu Hustle
Resident Evil
There are some more but, I’m not at liberty to publicly disclose them all.

And to all those naysayers *****in bout how long a wait it will be before current titles become available in the Blu-ray format……….

Well, when Memoirs of a Geisha, Bond (with the new guy), Click, Underworld 2 ? do eventually come out on DVD they will simultaneously appear on Blu-ray for a seamless transition for the discerning videophile. There are other titles which I cannot list at this time."
If these titles turn out to be true it's a decent start. I'd definitely buy Underworld 2, Resident Evil and The Fifth Element.

interesting, i wonder how much computer drives are going to go for. i figure rather than spending $1500 on a blu-ray computer drive i would rather get a Powerbook with a blu-ray drive for that much

Default Blue-ray computer drive.

I think what will be interesting to see is weather or not the blue-ray drive will be a rewritable. I remember when DVD first came to computer drives and it was readable only. If Sony will offer a rewritable version as well I would consider the powerbook option as well, to start with anyway!

Default Is this a joke?

So whose sick joke was it that Blu-Ray release occur on '6/6/6'? Sounds like a subliminal message here from a competing technology pundit that Blu-Ray will be the format for the "image of the Beast". This coincidence kind of blows away the whole date and and release justification offered as being credible. Nice try, but I ain't buyin this. We will see product long before summer.

D'oh! I hadn't even realized the 666 occurence. I do hope you're right that we will see hardware and movies much sooner.

I wonder when the DRM issues will be sorted out Both as far as the manufacturers are concerned (as hinted at in the Pioneer Media release) and the happy medium between Studios and consumers?
I suspect no matter what is announced at the CES unless the release date is within a few days - they will be released before HD-DVD (if HD-DVD are still planning a release). There should be plenty more players and titles from other manufacturers. Oh only 3 days to go! I think this wait is worse than the actual release.

On the same day, the remake of the movie "The Omen" will come to the cinemas
