United Kingdom Oscar Winners - Agree or Disagree?

Okay so at the moment I am currently going through the Best Picture Oscar films and watching all the ones that were nominated in the same year. Reason being is because I want to see if I agree with the actual winner. I was wondering which Oscar winners you guys have seen that didn't deserve to win, and what film nominated in the same year should have won?

I will do a few:

1940 - WINNER: Rebecca - Should have been Winner: The Philadelphia Story
1941 - WINNER: How Green was my Valley - SHBW: The Maltese Falcon
1946 - WINNER: The Best Years of Our Lives - SHBW: It's a Wonderful Life
1948 - WINNER: Hamlet - SHBW: The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
1950 - WINNER: All About Eve - SHBW: Sunset Boulevard
1951 - WINNER: An American in Paris - SHBW: A Place in the Sun
1958 - WINNER: GIGI - SHBW: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof
1961 - WINNER: West Side Story - SHBW: The Hustler
1962 - WINNER: Lawerence of Arabia - SHBW: To Kill a Mockingbird
1963 - WINNER: Tom Jones - SHBW: Cleopatra
1976 - WINNER: Rocky - SHBW: Taxi Driver
1990 - WINNER: Dances with Wolves - SHBW: Goodfellas
1997 - WINNER: Titanic - SHBW: LA Confidential
2001 - WINNER: A Beautiful Mind - SHBW: Lord of the Rings: FOTR
2002 - WINNER: Chicago - SHBW: Lord of the Rings: TTT

I'll add three

1998-Shakespeare in Love (Saving Private Ryan should have won)
2002-Chicago (The Pianist should have won)
2005-Crash (Brokeback Mountain should have won)

I don't agree with this, although LOTR is an awesome movie, I think A Beautiful Mind is much better and rightfully deserves that oscar. IMHO

I agree with Brokeback Mountain over Crash 100%, and I've never seen Shakespeare in Love, but I'm pretty sure I would agree with you on Saving Private Ryan.

Shakespeare In Love wasn't bad, but Saving Private Ryan was so much better on all cylinders.

2009-Slumdog SHBW: TCCOBB
2004-Crash SHBW: Munich
2002- Chicago SHBW: The Pianist
1998-Shakespeare in Love SHBW: SPR
1997- tough one. It was the year of The Titanic. But As Good as It Gets, Good Will Hunting, and L.A. Confidential were all great films.
1991- Silence of the Lambs...JFK, I think was better but of course they'd never give it the honors of Best Picture.
1990- Dances with Wolves..SHBW: Goodfellas

I also always believed that Ralph Ralph Fiennes should have won the best supporting actor award for Schindler's List.

Oh uh....time to scarper LOL. But seriously I liked the opening but it when downhilll from there. I much prefer a Korean film called Taegukgi or (Brotherhood) as it had more heart and soul and delivered big time on the war scenes.

Ok first of all...go away with that Lord of the Rings crap. The worst of all three actually won Best Picture! Go Figure!

No, Titanic did win and should have won. Yes I love LA Confidential but sorry it's no Titanic.

Rocky was just fine as the winner in 77. Could have gone either way! If you didnt see Rocky back in 76/77 in the theater you have no idea what Im talking about!

What No Star Wars over Annie Hall? Hmm...lots of people think Star Wars should have won!

Okay I love ya music Elvis but we disagree big time on movies.

I forgot about 77, Star Wars should have won.

Return of the King is the best theatrical version and worst Extended version...Fellowship is the opposite.

Titanic does not hold a candle to LA. LA has better actors a better script and isn't dull. Just because Titanic is based on a disaster does not make it good.

I agree with Raging Bull. Ordinary People was a good movie, but Raging Bull was much better.

The Oscars are not a fan contest or an election.

Voting is done by the members of the academy.

Any of us having opinions is fine, but in reality they carry no weight in the process. And that is the way it should be.

The Peoples Choice awards are a different animal and there you can have input.

So the members of the Academy are not biased and they never vote for who they like and not who should win? I haven't regularly paid attention to the Oscars since Titanic garnered all those nominations but even I can tell the Academy is very political and it shows in which movies win every year.

The two that stick out most to me are:
Slumdog Millionaire (2009). The Curious case of benjamin button should have won
Titanic (1997). So many better films, L A Confidential for example, even as good as it gets, arghh, so many better films that year.

I know but the Acamedy has shite taste. I mean Gigi better than Cat on a Hot Tin Roof? An American in Paris better than A Place in the Sun? I think not. And the only musical that ever deserved to win the Oscar wasn't even nominated (Singin in the Rain).

I don't always agree with the Academy or think My Fair Lady deserved 8 Academy Awards but it deserved to win at least one. I'd make an argument for the Sound of Music and Mary Poppins as well, maybe Funny Face.
